- Try recording in a different mode
All GoPro cameras are capable of recording in full 1080p HD, with some models offering larger resolutions and high frame rate options (e.g., >50 FPS). When using these high resolution or frame rate video modes, it is normal for the camera to become warm and use more power.
Additionally, using these high-performance modes in higher temperatures decreases camera recording time. Lack of airflow around the camera, using the camera with the GoPro App, or in combination with BacPac accessories further increases camera temperature and power consumption, and decreases camera recording time.
If the camera is stopping a recording without prompt try decreasing the resolution and/or frame rate to see if the symptom is limited to a certain mode.
- Make sure you’re using a known-good SD card.
Check out our SD Card Considerations article for more information. If your card is too slow, the camera may stop recording as the card can’t keep up with the output of data from the camera, regardless of your recording settings.
- Charge your camera.
Make sure that you charge your camera using the recommended method, and allow the camera to completely charge.
- Reformat your SD card in the camera.
If you want to save any files that are currently on your SD card, please save them to your computer. Next, reformat your SD card in the camera by using the Delete All/Format function. You can refer to the links below for instructions on how to do so:
- Record a video with your camera.
Make sure that Wi-Fi and Protune (if applicable) are turned off and that you don’t have any BacPac accessories attached to the camera. Then, set your camera to 1080-30, and record a video until the battery power is depleted. The length of the total video(s) recorded will vary depending on the camera and recording environment; feel free to reference the articles below for the estimated runtimes:
