Memory Card Won't Click In

by GoPro on ‎09-30-2019 08:56 PM - edited Wednesday
What's the issue?
The SD card does not click into the memory card slot.

Where does it apply?
  • All cameras that use a microSD card

How to fix it?

You may not be inserting the SD card in far enough for it to properly lock into place.  Use a fingernail or the side of a coin to push the card in past flush until you hear a clicking sound.  Here is a quick instructional on correct insertion and removal of the card:

  • You want to look at the camera with the lens facing up and 'HERO' logo on the bottom right...
  • Insert the memory card with the metal contacts going into the slot first and away from you.  In other words, the SD card label should be facing you when you insert it this way.  You need to push the card in past flush to have the spring mechanism secure the card into place.
  • To get the card out of the slot, push the card in past flush and then the spring mechanism will release it.

For HERO+ and HERO+ LCD cameras:

  • Open the HERO camera housing and look at the back of the camera.
  • Insert the memory card with the metal contacts going into the slot first facing the left-hand side.
For HERO (2014):
  • Open the HERO (2014) camera housing and look at the back of the camera.
  • Insert the memory card with the metal contacts going into the slot first facing the right-hand side.
For HERO9 Black, HERO8 Black, MAX, HERO7 Black, HERO6 Black, HERO5 Black, and HERO (2018):
  • The metal contacts face the front of the camera.
For HERO7 White and HERO7 Silver:
  • The metal contacts face the back of the camera.

In Fusion, the cards' labeling should be facing inward, toward the battery.

If you have continued issues with proper insertion and removal of the SD card, please contact GoPro Customer Support for further assistance.
