Fusion Tips and Tricks

by GoPro ‎10-02-2019 10:31 PM - edited ‎08-06-2020 08:17 PM
Here are some tips & tricks to help you get the most from your Fusion devices…

Keep Your Lenses Safe
Travel with Fusion in its case to protect exposed lenses! Any scratch is way worse in spherical… Piggybacking on the above point, be careful with the lenses, they scratch so easily, so never rest camera on lenses, stand it upside down or on its sides.

Keep Your Lenses Clean
Believe it or not, snow, your fingerprint or even a water drop can ruin a golden moment. When filming in water, lick the lens and wait for it to dry, then dunk it in the water. Repeat as necessary. This simple trick works wonders. You can also use Rain-X if you have it. That works too.

Only Keep What Your Want
You don't have to export entire video clips! Use the TRIM function in the EDIT tab to input in and out points to expedite your desktop experience.

Keep Centered
Keep key action in the center of the lenses, not on the stitch line. Optical clarity diminishes obviously as you get to the edges of the lens and the stitched overlap regions.

Running Off External Power
If you are running off of external power, you will need to hide that cable from the stitch line. Maybe test out something like an angled type C cable that you can tape to the body of the camera.

SD Cards Best Practices
Your SD cards’ read & write speed matter. Purchase Class 10 UHS II/III cards and experience less errors!
Pro tip: Treat your SD cards as a couple, makes it easier for file management.

Powering On
The GoPro Fusion features just two buttons: the shutter button on the front and the mode / power button on the side. After inserting the battery, wait for the LED to blink once before pressing the power button on the side.

Video Mode Selection
Fusion allows you to create three different resolutions, 5.6k24*, 5.2K30 and 3K60.
  • Pro tip: 5.6k24* is the best choice to receive the highest image quality for a more cinematic experience and syncing your footage up with other non-GoPro cameras in post production.
  • Pro tip: 5.2k30 is the best choice to create full HD (1080p) punch outs of any part of your video.
  • Pro tip: 3k60 is the way to go if you want to create slow motion fully immersive moments.
* Requires 2.0 Beta Software and can be found in the article Fusion 2.0 Beta Update for your GoPro Fusion

Mounting Fusion
To attach the Mounting Fingers, open both arms and slide them all the way into the rails on the bottom of the camera. Then close both arms to lock them in place.

If there’s any possibility that you might lose your camera during an activity, like surfing or whitewater rafting, attach a tether. Just loop the tether through the mounting fingers so it’s secure, then attach the other end to a secure location.

Pro tip: Keep anything you want in the shot at least 20cm away from Fusion.
Pro tip: Tethers are available on GoPro.com..
