What is the Bluetooth connectivity on the camera? Is it different from Wi-Fi?

Bluetooth requires less energy (and therefore less battery) than Wi-Fi to connect GoPro Quik to your camera. For HERO7 GoPro cameras and older, the Bluetooth connection is used for "waking the camera up" from a low-power wireless state. This is true for HERO8 and newer, however, there are some additional controls available via Bluetooth before the user is forced to connect Wi-Fi when using these newer cameras.
Keep in mind if Bluetooth gets disconnected from the camera then the user will need to go back into their mobile device's Bluetooth settings and reconnect.

HERO10 Black, HERO9 Black, HERO8 Black, MAXGoPro Quik will default to Bluetooth control when paired with the camera. With the exception of Live Preview and viewing the media on the camera SD card, all camera control functions will be available while using Bluetooth.
When a user enables Live Preview or attempts to view the media stored on the camera SD card, the app will prompt the user to connect to Wi-Fi. Anytime a user is not using one of those features, the app will use Bluetooth.
Why use Bluetooth control vs Wi-Fi?
Bluetooth control consumes significantly less battery on both the phone and camera.
What features can Bluetooth control NOT support?
- Live preview
- Viewing media on camera (subsequently downloading media to phone as well)
