Reset Camera Settings

What are you trying to do?
You may need to reset the camera to the default settings for a variety of reasons, including:
  • Anytime the camera experiences a problem and you want to make sure that the camera settings aren't contributing to the issue.
  • There's lag time when changing settings with the menu buttons.
  • Any HDMI connection issues.

All Cameras

    How to do it?
    Note: Please keep in mind these steps will NOT reset the camera's Wi-Fi name and password. 

    HERO10 Black and HERO9 Black
     
    Format SD Card
    1. From the main screen, swipe down and then left.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Format SD Card].
    NOTE: This will delete all files from your SD card. Be sure to back them up first.
     
    Reset Presets
    1. From the main screen, swipe down and then left.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Reset Defaults].
    NOTE: Resets all Presets to default and Deletes Custom Presets

    Reset Camera Tips
    1. From the main screen, swipe down and then left.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset Camera Tips].
    NOTE: This will allow you to get camera walk-through tips again.

    Factory Reset
    1. From the main screen, swipe down and then left.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Factory Reset].
    NOTE: In addition to Camera Defaults, this resets date/time, clears your connections, and removes the camera from your GoPro Plus account.

    MAX
     
    Format SD Card
    1. From the main screen.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Format SD Card].
    NOTE: This will delete all files from your SD card. Be sure to back them up first.

    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Reset Defaults].
    NOTE: Resets all settings except Date, Time, Camera Name and Password, Language, and Video Format

    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset Camera Tips].
    NOTE: This will allow you to get camera walk-through tips again.

    HERO8 Black
     
    Preset Defaults
    1. Swipe down to access the Dashboard.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Reset Presets].
    NOTE: This will reset all of your camera’s original preset settings to the defaults.
     
    Factory Reset
    1. Swipe down to access the Dashboard.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Factory Reset].
    NOTE: In addition to Camera Defaults, this resets date/time, clears your connections, and removes the camera from your GoPro Plus account.


    HERO7 Black
     
    Camera Defaults
    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Reset Defaults] > [Confirm Reset].
    NOTE: Resets all settings except Date, Time, Camera Name and Password, Language, and Video Format
     
    Factory Reset
    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Factory Reset] > [Confirm Reset].
    NOTE: In addition to Camera Defaults, this resets date/time, clears your connections, and removes the camera from your GoPro Plus account.

    HERO7 Silver
     
    Camera Defaults
    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Reset Defaults] > [Confirm Reset].
    NOTE: Resets all settings except Date, Time, Camera Name and Password, Language, and Video Format
     
    Factory Reset
    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Factory Reset] > [Confirm Reset].
    NOTE: In addition to Camera Defaults, this resets date/time, clears your connections, and removes the camera from your GoPro Plus account.

    HERO7 White

    Camera Defaults
    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Reset Defaults] > [Confirm Reset].
     
    NOTE: Resets all settings except Date, Time, Camera Name and Password, Language, and Video Format
     
    Factory Reset
    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Reset] > [Factory Reset] > [Confirm Reset].
    NOTE: In addition to Camera Defaults, this resets date/time, clears your connections, and removes the camera from your GoPro Plus account.

    HERO6 Black
     
    Camera Defaults
    1. From the main screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap [Preferences] > [Camera Defaults] > [Reset].
    NOTE: Resets all settings except for date/time, and your camera's username/password. 

      Factory Reset
      1. From the main screen, swipe down.
      2. Tap [Preferences] > [Factory Reset] > [Reset].
      NOTE: In addition to Camera Defaults, this resets date/time, camera username/password, and unregisters the device from your GoPro Plus account

      Fusion

      Factory Reset
      1. Press the [Mode button] (side) to power on your camera.
      2. Press the [Mode button] repeatedly until the Settings icon (wrench) appears; press the [Shutter button] (front) to enter Settings.
      3. Press the [Shutter button] five times to bring up the Preferences settings. 
      4. Press the [Mode button] repeatedly, until "RESET" is highlighted at the bottom of the list, then press the [Shutter button] to select. 
      5. Press the [Mode button] to highlight "RESET," then press the [Shutter button] to confirm and restore the camera to Factory Settings. 

      HERO5 Black, HERO (2018)
       
      Camera Defaults
      1. From the main screen, swipe down.
      2. Tap [Preferences] > [Camera Defaults] > [Reset].
      NOTE: Resets all settings except for date/time, and your camera's username/password. 

        Factory Reset
        1. From the main screen, swipe down.
        2. Tap [Preferences] > [Factory Reset] > [Reset].
        NOTE: In addition to Camera Defaults, this resets date/time, camera username/password, and unregisters the device from your GoPro Plus account

        HERO5 Session
         
        Factory Reset
        1. With your camera off, press the [Menu button] to turn on the status screen.
        2. Press the [Menu button] repeatedly until you get to Exit Menu.
        3. Press and hold [Shutter button] for 8 seconds.
        4. Press the [Menu button] to move to Yes, then press the [Shutter button] to select it.
        NOTE: This resets camera defaults, date/time, camera username/password, and unregisters the device from your GoPro Plus account.


        HERO4 Instructions
        1. Press the [Mode button] (front) until you see the Setup Gear icon.
        2. Press the [Shutter button] (top) to select it.
        3. Press the [Mode button] (front) until Reset Cam is highlighted.
        4. Press the [Shutter button] (top) to select it.
        5. Press the [Mode button] (front) to highlight Reset.
        6. Press the [Shutter button] (top) to select it.
        7. When the camera powers on, it will be set to all of the factory defaults.

         
        HERO3 Black & HERO3+ Instructions
        1. Hold down the [Shutter (S) button].
        2. Press the [Power (P) button] while holding the Shutter button.
        3. When the camera powers on, it will be set to all of the factory default


        HERO+LCD / HERO+ / HERO (2014)
        1. Perform a Manual Update. (HERO, HERO+, HERO+ LCD)


        HERO3 White & HERO3 Silver
        1. Perform a Manual Update
