How does Quik for mobile handle cached data?
- Quik for mobile
- iOS Devices
- Android Devices
Photos and videos are converted so that they fit the technical requirements of Quik for mobile. Pictures are resized to 1024x1024 and the bitrate of the video is changed to balance video quality and upload time. This is done so that your content will fit the rendering engine in Quik for mobile.
Once content is converted it is stored in the app. This is so that the content won't have to be converted again. The amount of space taken up depends on how big your project is. Songs uploaded from your library are stored in a cache folder as well.
The cache folder can be cleaned regularly by the operating system to create room on your device. Quik for mobile is not able to chose when your device will clean out its cache.
Quik for mobile itself is big as well, 100mb. Our video styles require a lot of graphic assets and the 3D engine is quite heavy too.
Additional information on cached data:
Currently there’s no option to clean the cache on an iOS device. It’s a pain point that we know about and want to improve. If you absolutely need more space on your device, deleting and reinstalling the app will help. However, this will delete your projects as well. Make sure all your videos are exported and saved on your device before you delete and reinstall Quik for mobile.
Videos shared online (Quik link) will still be online if you don’t delete them from Quik for mobile first.
Visit the settings for Quik for mobile on your device and find the Clear Cache button. This might free up some space but please keep in mind that the bigger your project, the more cached data you will have.
