Question

Are GoPro cameras compatible with HDMI detectives?

Where does it apply?
  • HERO7 Black
  • HERO (2018)
  • HERO6 Black
  • HERO5 Black
  • HERO4 (Silver and Black Editions)
  • HERO3+ (Silver and Black Editions)
  • HERO3 (White, Silver and Black Editions)
  • HERO2

Answer

Yes, we have seen compatibility with HDMI detectives, mostly brand name ones like Gefen. An HDMI detective is used to help establish the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) and signal with the camera, when preparing to connect it to a sink source (i.e. HDMI recorder, broadcast switcher, etc.). This will help ensure that no information is lost or dropped from the EDID. Depending on what the desired output signal is, users will want to test that signal or various signals to see if they'll be compatible with connection to the sink source. Once the EDID is establish with the detective, the signal can then be outputted to sink source.
