Cannot import .m4v files from the Photos application into GoPro Studio - Mac

by GoPro on ‎09-30-2019 08:57 PM - edited yesterday
What's the issue?
PLEASE NOTE: If you're having this issue, then use GOPRO APP FOR DESKTOP as your NEW source for importing/managing your GoPro footage.

Footage transferred to a Mac using the Photos application are unable to be imported into GoPro Studio. Unlike iPhoto, the new Photos application converts the GoPro MP4 into a .m4v file when exporting outside of the program.

***The new Photos application was introduced on Mac OS 10.10 (Yosemite) as part of the new OS. This is different from the previous photos application, iPhoto.

Only in iPhoto, you can drag the thumbnail from the iPhoto application to the Desktop and it will generate a copy of a MP4 file, whereas the Photos application will not have the same feature.***

GoPro Studio will not be able to import the grayed out .m4v files as it is a incompatible file.

Where does it apply?
  • GoPro Studio Mac
  • Photos Application - Mac

How to fix it?
  1. Open Photos
  2. Select the Video files to export
  3. File - Export - Export Unmodified Original
  4. Click Export
  5. Save it to a easy to view location. Preferably a new folder on the Desktop.
  6. Click Export Originals
  7. Once the exported files are in the folder, import the MP4 from there into GoPro Studio.
