Camera is Not Recognized on GoPro App for Desktop - Mac

What's the issue?
*** For those using the new Quik for desktop, please refer to the article Camera is Not Recognized on Quik for desktop - Mac for more information.***

GoPro camera is no longer being recognized under My Devices on GoPro App for Desktop. Currently, using a micro SD card adapter will display a mass storage device on the Desktop; however, other applications(including Image Capture) still won't recognize the camera.

Or if the camera is recognized under My Devices, but there are "No Files to Import" appears and the "Space Used" bar is clearly showing some data inside the micro SD card.

How to fix it?
Method 1

Sometimes the Mac would need a USB port reset to reactive several hardware settings.
  1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Shift + Control + Option + Power Button. 
  3. Hold the button combination for about 5 seconds and release them all at the same time. 
  4. Turn on your Mac.
After resetting your computer’s USB ports, please verify if you are able to connect the GoPro via USB cable or microSD card adapter and have GoPro App for Desktop recognize it under My Devices.

Please make sure NOT to change the folder names and structure on the SD card. For example, do NOT rename the "DCIM" folder. 

If you have rename the folders, please make sure to change the folders back to their original name. As a reminder, you must use a micro SD card adapter to change the file folder name.
