surf mount rubber horseshoe not fitting

[ New ]

Hi, it seems that the rubber horseshoe piece does not fit on my surf mount clip when the latter is clipped.

Although I see clips shaped otherwise online, this is the one i have and it does not seem to allow for the rubber piece to fit in...

Am I missing out on something?

thanks

Jon

DO NOT use the standard mount (the square thing your buckle is in) for surfing. Also, unless your board has some strange concave curve to it, the mount in your picture is completely wrong as it's not flat. You can most certainly use the J-Hook buckle (the one you have) with the surf mount. You do not have to use the white safety/anti-vibration plug (although it's nice to have). The most important thing for mounting to a surfboard is using the correct surf mount on a flat and smooth surface (Do not use on a foam board, only fiberglass or epoxy) AND that you are using the safety tether (comes with surf mount). Also, DO NOT use the surf mount for at least 24 hours after applying.

The clip is actually referred to as a buckle. The one that you are attempting to use is called a J-Hook. The plug will fit a standard buckle, but will not fit into the J-Hook. If you need an elevated buckle that has a security/anti-vibration plug (the white thing), the new GoPro buckles all have them built in. You can get a similar buckle in the Grab Bag. Also, the Swivel Mount Buckle is also elevated and works great for surfing since you can change the viewing angel from looking up at the surfer to facing the wave without having to unmount the camera.

Hi @coolboost14102,

Looks like the one you have is different to the GoPro Surfboard Mount

You can also check this YouTube video of GoPro Athlete Monyca Eleogram showing the proper way to mount a GoPro onto a surfboard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF290V8S6dQ

Kind Regards,

Ann

Thank you for your response @aenriquez.
I do understand they are different, however this is the only clip I have (original and came with the camera).
The surf mount you gave me the link to does not appear to include the clip itself, meaning if I purchase it I still can't clip my Gopro properly.
Do you see my point?
I hope there is another alternative you could suggest.
thanks,
Jon

@coolboost14102, these are great suggestions from @danielr15. Hopefully that helps!
