Helmet mounting works very well. Tilt the camera down to get the best angle and to capture facial expressions. Using the Chesty with the gooseneck extension https://gopro.com/help/ContactUs will probably give the best results, but it might be a little more cumbersome. Another option is the large Tube mount (connects quickly to any 1.4 to 2.5in (3.5 to 6.35cm) diameter tube) and mounting the camera to your oar.

The Sports kit comes with both a Chesty and Handlebar/Seatpost/Pole Mount https://gopro.com/en/us/shop/mounts/sports-kit/AKTAC-001.html however the max diameter the for the pole mount is 1.4in (35mm) so you'll want to measure the circumference of your oar handle before purchasing.

@blakef5465, GoPro Chesty is typically used to capture immersive hands-free shots from your chest. However, if you want to capture 360 footage (hands-free, body-mounted) using MAX or Fusion, I suggest mounting the camera on your helmet. You can use the Vented Helmet Strap Mount to attach your GoPro to any vented bike, ski, kayak or similar sports helmet. Hopefully, this helps. Anyhow, other users may also have some other recommendations, let's watch out for their ideas.
