Can the Charging port door be removed to allow connection of the power cable with the camera installed in the mounting bracket, or is there an optional bracket available that will allow the port door to remain open?

Yes it can be. It's really easy, check the video linked.

One of the reason why Hero 5 Frame has a small opening right on the charging door so you can keep it plugged in even if it is inside the frame. The only thing to remember that your camera will no longer be water proof.

Not sure which camera you have, but the Hero3 (+), 4, and 5 all have removable doors.

I have the 5 Black. How can the door be removed. This one has pinned hinge. My 3 and 4 only had a plastic cap.

Please enlighten me!
