Thank you for your responce. No, it is (was) completely inside. I also noticed it does not light up when plugged into a device. So assuming it's "done", I bought it a couple years ago and I wanted my card (more so photos), i split it apart. My finding are either the card "bed" (my own discription) was loose and allowed the card to go in over the top of it or somehow we were able to install the card at enough of an angle (upward) to get over the top of the card "bed". This also answers it not lighting up. I have not tryied glueing it together in fear repeat occurances or having to buy a new one.

Thank you for the warranty information, I assumed that, it being more than 30 days (seems todays standard) old. My hope was for help with the problem retrieving the card (and more so data). It was GoPro user forums and pages that lead me to contacting GoPro and they replaced my original first gen card reader, the one with the symetirical leading shoulder, quickly and gracisouly. If nothing else perhaps this exchange will help someone else that may experience their card being eaten (so to speak).
