Remo not connecting, as well as app error?

Hello all! I did some googling first, and didn't see my exact problem. 

 

So I am kind of disapointed in gopro, finally got back into kayaking after working a ton of hours the last couple months, decided to bring my gopros. I have 2 hero 6 blacks, 1 hero 5 black. I wanted to connect my remo to the camera I mount on the front of my kayak pointing backwards. I got a new phone recently, didn't have any of the cameras on it. I download app, connect the camera, do the update. Then I get to the fun part (sarcasm)

 

I put the camera into remo pairing mode. It says to press power button on remo for 8 seconds, when unit is off. I follow this exactly. Blue light starts flashing on the remo. Nothing. Doesn't connect. Turn it off, turn it on again by holding button for 8 seconds. Nothing. Maybe I am doing it wrong? So I go into the app, go to settings, select the option to pair the remo from in the app. This time, a screen on the gopro shows up that is telling me to put my smart remote into pairing mode. I do not have a smart remote, nor have I ever connected one. But, maybe its just a glitch. So I try holding remo button down for 8 seconds again, blue light flashes, no connection.

 

Maybe its just that camera? Maybe the update sucked?

So I decided to try it on my other hero6, turn camera on, go to connections, add remo, tells me to put hold power button on remo for 8 seconds, blue light flashes, nothing.

 

What is going wrong? This is frustrating, the reason I got the gopros was for the simplicity I don't want to have to troubleshoot stupid electronic problems when I am in the ocean, and if I am getting problems now when im sitting at my house, it doesn't bode well for actually having to use them.

 

TLDR;

Issue 1: Remo does not pair with any of my cameras when put into pairing mode. Blue light IS flashing after I hold down button for 8 seconds, battery fully charged.

 

Issue 2: When I try to pair the Remo to the camera via the app, on the gopro touchscreen it says it is trying to pair to a smart remote, not the voice remo.

Thank you for the details that you provided. It is really a good practice to test things first prior to the actual day. It is odd that the REMO does not pair with the all the cameras that you have. I replicated the issue with a REMO, a HERO6 Black and a HERO5 Black camera. Both the cameras are up-to-date with firmware, both manually updated. I did the same steps as yours and was able to pair the REMO to the cameras individually. 

 

Did you turn the Wi-Fi on the cameras on first prior to pairing with the REMO? Please make sure that you do. Also, wait for the blue light to blink before you release the power (side) button on the REMO.

 

I also tried pairing via GoPro App and got the same pop-up message that you saw. I was not able to complete the pairing via app, probably due to the interference with the GoPro app itself, and the REMO not being correctly identified (Wi-Fi remote instead of REMO). This I have reported to the team. 

 

Try again on your end and see how it goes. If you encounter the same issue, a manual update on the cameras will help. This is even if the cameras may already be with the latest firmware. Manual update re-flashes the firmware completely and clears out any possible error associated with the current installation.
