Power on time for Hero7 Black with a smart remote

I have a Gen 1 ARMTE-001 smart remote when i purchased my GoPro Hero3 back in the day.  Works great!  I now have a Hero7 Black and can pair the two cameras to the remote.  

 

Here's my question....

I connect both cameras to the remote and then power them off with the remote.  I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning and hit power on the remote, the GoPro3 powers on and is connected/ready to go, but the Hero7 Black does not power on or connect.  Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?  If I want to connect to the remote, I have to go to the backscreen and manually do the process again.  If I want to connect to iPad/iPhone, I also have to manually go through the steps.

 

Is my GoPro3 set up better for long delay periods to power off/power on using the remote?  

 

Thank you in advance for any advice and help!

Hi @mulewhisperer,

 

You cannot turn off the camera using the remote but you can wake the camera. 

However the HERO7 camera will disable the connection between the remote and camera after 8 hours. 

 

Regarding the username on GoPro Website and Quik you can change that on user profile settings but here in Community you cannot change that if you did not customize the name on initial setup.

So when I hit the power button on the smart remote it is not turning the power off?  Just going into sleep mode?  

And if I understand correctly, the Hero7 will disconnect after 8 hours but the Hero3 stays connected?  Does the 8 hour time window start on initial connection?  Or on the last wake/usage?  Is there a way to disable the disconnect?  I appreciate your time and help!

Yes @mulewhisperer,

Meaning the camera is still running and consuming battery/power.

 

And yes HERO3 stays connected as far as I know. Haven't tried that personally but with the HERO7 I'm sure it disconnects. 

As of now there's no way for us to disable the auto disconnect.

 

The 8 hour window starts when you turn off the camera manually.

I have not turned the Hero7 camera off the previous two nights and have woke up to the camera being disconnected.  I have only hit the power button on the remote which I now understand puts the cameras to "sleep".  So I am still not sure when the 8 hours start?  When you first connect the remote or when you last engage camera with remote (record/put to sleep)?

The 8 hours starts when you turn off the camera. 

HERO7's Wi-Fi is on idle and waiting for command.

I am NOT turning the camera off at night.  Simply putting it to sleep with the remote.  I assume then that the Hero7 also powers off after 8 hours?  You have mentioned twice it has 8 hours after shutting it off.  I have never done that.

But as far as i know it will automatically disconnects after 8 hours.
