Minimum read and write speeds required for each GoPro camera

Instead of a small list of brands of micro SD cards that have been proven to be compatible with GoPro cameras, is it possible to get a list of minimum read and write speeds required for each model of GoPro camera. This would allow the consumer to buy a micro SD card that meets these requirements and would give the manufacturers the motivation for being more transparent regarding the read and write speeds of their SD cards. Words like Ultra, Extreme, Extreme Pro etc. do little to inform the consumer and only confuse, as read and write speeds are all that really matter. I just returned SanDisk Ultra micro SD cards (class 10, UHS 1) that claim on the package "speeds up to 80 MB/s"...what does that mean...read or write or combined read and write??!! I have now purchased a Kingston branded micro Sd card that states on the packaging 90MB/s Read, 80MB/s Write...with a 4K-Ultra HD designation as well. GoPro however don't list Kingston Technology's SD cards on their compatibility pages.

Re: Minimum read and write speeds required for each GoPro camera

Well, the minimum R/W speeds have to do with what resolution you are shooting at. Some low-end settings record at 20 Mb/s, while 4K shoots at 60 Mb/s.

Here's a list of all of the bitrates. https://havecamerawilltravel.com/gopro/video-hero5-black/

Note: Mb/s = MegaBITS per second, while MB/s = MegaBYTES per second. Don't mix up the two. One is 8 times more than the other.

Re: Minimum read and write speeds required for each GoPro camera

And to answer your other question, the reason GoPro hasn't listed the Kingston and other brands is because they haven't officially tested it yet. I'm pretty sure that SanDisk is licensed to put on their SD's "Suitable for GoPro's" or something like that. That's why GoPro "recommends" SanDisk Extreme, but they don't work in the high-end cameras, at least from what I've heard.

Unrelated note: I personally use Lexar 633x cards. I haven't had any problems with them since I bought my Hero 5 Black back in December.
