Karma Grip SD Card Error

Has anyone else had a regular SD card error with the Grip? I t doesn't seem to happen when not using the Karma Grip but I am finding that using the Grip and pressing record on and off from the handle isn't very robust and is causing read errors on the card. Am I doing something wrong?

I am aware that someone is going to say it's my card or the frame rate I'm recording at. As I say it works perfectly well when not in the Grip and I am using a Lexar 64GB card and recording at 2.7k 60fps.

Re: Karma Grip SD Card Error

Hi @foggyvista82427,

I am sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your camera. I have personally been using my HERO5 Black since it came out with a Lexar 633x without a single SD Error, and more recently with my Karma Grip without issue. It is certainly not typical to have an SD Error every time you start your camera! If you are having that issue I would certainly recommend reaching out to Support to get that looked into: https://gopro.com/help/PKBContactus.

You definitely want to make sure that you are using a recommend SD Card from our SD Considerations list: https://gopro.com/help/articles/Block/microSD-Card-Considerations. Even when using a card from the list there is always a possibility that there could be something wrong with the specific SD Card in use and you may want to contact the manufacturer of the SD Card directly. Glad to hear that you were able to find a fix that worked for you in the meantime. I hope this helps!

Best,

Ryan

Re: Karma Grip SD Card Error

I've had exactly the same issues with the gp5 in my Karma grip as well.

The only "logical explanation" I've found is that it happens when I use the grip a lot. when I use it for some small shooting It won't happen. But as soon as I use it  for a few hours (with many switching on and off), I see that after a while my Karma seems to get "overworked".

So now I try to use my Karma in one go, no switching on and off and try to film my scenes in one go...

Re: Karma Grip SD Card Error

I have the same problem after update the firmware to 2.0.  I start recording and in about 2 mins, it said SD Error.  It seems fine if I am not using karma grip.

Re: Karma Grip SD Card Error

Hi All,

I would recommend manually updating your camera and formatting that SD Card in your computer. Even if you are running the most up to date firmware re-flashing that firmware can correct any issues with the past installation.

If you are still having issues after that I would recommend doing a hard reset on the Grip: https://gopro.com/help/articles/How_To/How-to-hard-reset-the-Karma-Grip.

If you are still experience issues after that go ahead and reach out to support to see if they can get it straightened out!

Best,

Ryan

Re: Karma Grip SD Card Error

Every single time I use the go pro hero 5 black in the grip or without I will 100% guaranteed get an SD card error. Quick fix is to turn the camera off and on. It's a well documented fault with hundreds of complaints. GoPro simply blame the SD card or give a standard generic response like the guy above, none of it works, the issue is with the camera and who knows, maybe one day it'll be fixed. Unlikely though.
