GoPro Hero 5 Black external mic issue

I'm using a new Hero 5 Black, Gopro audio adapter, Trrs to trs adapter, and a Rode VideoMic and still I'm getting NO SOUND.  I've selected standard+ on the camera.  According to the support website It should work.  Youtube video shows it works.  I'm pulling my hair out.  Any help out there?

If you are using Quick Capture (Pressing the shutter to turn on and start recording) it will not record sound. You need to turn the camera on and then press record each time. If this is how you are doing it and still not getting sound, you should contact the Support Team directly https://gopro.com/help/PKBContactus

I resolved my issue when I checked my audio setting and discovered that I had selected a powered mic (mine is not powered) did my test and it works fine.
