Floating Hand Grip?

Hello
This may be a silly question.
If I am using my Hero 5 to shoot a foot or two underwater should I have it attached to a floating had grip? I know that the floating hand grip will want to float but am not sure what the main application of the floating had grip is?
Is the main application of the floating hand grip to save the camera in the case it is dropped in water when you are not shooting underwater. Or is the the floating handgrip also helpful when shooting underwater?
Thanks!

The Handler has a couple of uses when used underwater. First is that it is a great way to make sure your GoPro doesn't sink. The second is that it gives you a great way to hold the camera with your hands off the GoPro itself. By keeping your hands clear of the GoPro, you can get cleaner audio and also make sure your fingers don't get in the way of the shot. Finally, the Handler also has a wrist strap, which means when you're not using your GoPro, you can keep it hanging from your wrist and keep your hands free to swim, grab other objects, etc.

I like to use the Bite Mount with The Handler. This way I also have the option of swimming or paddling my surf board with the camera in my mouth and can then easily switch to hand held.
