preview not working in the webcam even though the blue dot is on [ New ]

You mentioned that you've powered the camera off/on.  Have you tried pulling the battery out completely and restarting?

I got the same issue. Then saw the comment regarding firewall, so I turn it off on my mac, et voilà, it worked.

My config:

MacbookPro 15 inch 2019.

MacOS Catalina 10.15.6

I found the solution! It was a firewall issue. These are the steps I took and it worked for me:

1) Go to the apple icon on top and click on System Preferences

2) Click on Security & Privacy

3) Click on Firewall (type your password if you have it locked)

4) Go to Firewall Options

5) At the very top you will see 'Block all incoming connections' if it is checked UNCHECK IT!

6) Click on the + (plus) sign

7) Click the Applications pane

8) Click on your GoPro Webcam app

9) Click Add

10) Make sure you have 'Automatically allow built-in softwarer to receive incoming connections AND Automatically allow downloaded signed software to receive incoming connections' checked / enabled.

11) Click OK

12) Press the lock icon if you had it password protected

13) click x on top and you should be set.

Hi, I did try that as well. GoPro has access both in the Privacy as well as Firewall. I changed the batteries to make sure that a full power cycle was done.I also Reinstalled the gopro app on desktop. Webcam option shows up on the go pro screen when connected to USB, but preview is still not woring. I am using zoom Version: 5.0.2 (24030.0508) and it doesn't even show go pro as a webcam option. 

Anything else that anyone else can sugget. I am open to try to it.

I observed that if i am on VPN then the preview doesn work. If i switch off the VPN then the webcam feature starts working. Why would there be a dependency on firewall or ourgoing/incoming network connections?

Does anyone at GoPro know what effects this change will have on my computer's privacy? Am I now more vulnerable to incoming hacks or privacy attacks?
