Long timelapse failures

[ New ]

Hi guys!

I'm trying to perform a long timelapse using gopro Hero 8.

I'm using the labs firmware, 'version.txt 'contents:

{
"info version":"2.0",
"firmware version":"HD8.01.02.50.71",
"wifi mac":"XXXXXXX",
"camera type":"HERO8 Black",
"camera serial number":"XXXXXXX",
}

- I'm using also using a power bank that is always on (it has other consumers).

- I'm using a timelapse mode, taking picture every 150 seconds. The command is https://gopro.github.io/labs/control/set/?cmd=!150N!S!R

After couple of hours of work, the camera stops recording without any indicative error. The last lines of qrlog.txt are:

Additional info:

- It seemed that the battery was functioning as the the camera was fully charged in the morning

- for some reason, when I turned the camera on in the morning, the firmware message was that it is going to sleep for several hours (it hadn't woke with the same command of image every 150 seconds).

Would be happy to get your feedbacks and suggestions on tackling this issue.

Remove the internal battery. That is the main issue.

Hi Dan thanks for the reply. I have ran additional test without internal battery this night. Encountered the same behaviour. Attached last lines of the qrlog.txt (forgot to setup the date, but it all from last night):

- SD card has 25 GB available space out of 32

- When I came back to check the camera, a single press on the power button "woke up" the camera immediately (in contrast to the usual state where a firmware message and the current code, and a cancellation of current action is suggested)

- Used code: !150NmP!S!R

- I'm sure the power shortage is not an issue, as the camera worked in the morning, with no internal battery used

- In the output folder (D:\DCIM\101GOPRO) I have stopped seen images since 16:47 (attached screen shot), hence missing about 1 hour of recordings. Not sure if it relates to locale difference in my laptop due to time outdated or related issue.

Thanks for the help Dan

This is different, camera crash at "Start in:15 seconds". I don't understand the command f42!N <- this is not a command the camera knows. This is not the cause, as clearly the camera is ignoring this. This is not the command you linked as running.

Yea that's actually weird as it worked as expected for the first couple of hours (altough the logs are showing other command as you mentioned). I will have an additional test with a fresh SD card so that no confusion will be possible.

From your perspective, is there any reason not to use the command I mentioned (!150NmP!S!R) and instead use the construction timelpase calculator?

Nothing wrong with !150NmP!S!R. It is not the commanded used in the log (you have an error in that command.)

Re: Long timelapse failures

I'm doing the following steps to check:

1. Format SD card

2. Ran the following qrcode: !150N!S!R directly from the attached image to avoid misconfigurations (the config is of a delayed, repeated action of shutdown and take photo after 2 mins and 30 secs)

3. Waited for a single iteration of shooting with time lapse

4. Extracted SD card once camera went back to sleep. attached qrlog.txt contents:

[2021-04-04 17:14:58 0% 46c] Read QR:!150N!S!R
[2021-04-04 17:15:03 0% 46c] Shutdown and Sleep:120 seconds
[2021-04-04 17:17:04 100% 40c] QRShouldIWake:01
[2021-04-04 17:17:04 100% 40c] Woke with Alarm:[17:17:29]f30!N!S!R
[2021-04-04 17:17:06 0% 41c] Woke with Command:[17:17:29]f30!N!S!R
[2021-04-04 17:17:06 0% 41c] Start in:23 seconds
[2021-04-04 17:17:30 0% 44c] Timer wake command:f30!N!S!R
[2021-04-04 17:17:37 0% 44c] Shutdown and Sleep:120 seconds

The f30!N is coming from the delayed action:

Shutdown and capture in: hours mins secs

- If I check the qrlog.txt whilest reading the qrcode, it show the !150N!S!R command is indeed the one that is read.

I will try to wire similar time lapse with the construction calculator (mPdP>00:09<23:50!269SQ~!00:10S!1R) and update on the results, but would be happy to understand if I'm missing something, or need some firmware update
