How can this thread be headed "solved"? It sound like no solution has been provided. I have the same issue and cannot solve it. Totally unacceptable in a high-end product. Even the cheapest knock-off amera is plug and play for photo downloads.

Okay, this works;
set GoPro to video (otherwise the Mac will see it as "stillphoto" and do nothing for you.)
Click on the round Mac app called "Photo" and then plug in the USB cable goPro/Mac.
Then the Photo app will see all of your photos and videos. Create a new folder (or project- whatever) and import.
Whew! Does this have to be so stupid?
PS: it's not very fast.

A bit late to reply, but simple solution for this: open Disk Utility, click on the disk under your GoPro on the left and then click "mount" in the toolbar at the top. After mounting the disk it will show and function properly in Quik and other GoPro apps.

After using PHOTO on the Mac to open an Iphone I realized thatthe photographs in "PHOTO" can simply be dragged and dropped where ever you want them. You don't need to import. That's the easiest thing except if the app simply opened on it's own when you connected to specific devices.
