The app made 95% of it, including syncing the music. I fed it the raw footage, it selected the scenes, generated the cuts, and it also recommends lengths based off the music you pick (it has a pretty decent selection of music). Then you can go in and make some pretty easy tweaks (scene adjustments, focus points for pictures included). Honestly, I'm blown away at the quality and tools provided for a free app.
That said, there are a few downsides. It is capped at 1080p 60 fps, so it will down-res the end product if you feed it higher quality video (you do have to toggle the 1080p option, it isn't automatic). Here are the specifics: https://gopro.com/help/articles/Question_Answer/What-s-the-Video-Quality-Output-in-Quik
That also means that I'm not able to load 4k content I've shot on my phone (iPhone 8) into the app. There is a workaround, but you have to use the app's Flashbacks mode, which pulls in content from the past 24 hours. Loading in 4k content that way can crash the app occasionally.
Also, only the mobile app appears to autogenerate videos, the desktop version is not nearly as advanced, as far as I've been able to tell.
