I reccomend you do what I do:
tell everyone you know that is iterested that the App is completly unsuitable and the GoPro is far less useful that it used to be.
While I own a Hero4, it is likely to be the last gopro I ever purchase, because from my point of view GoPro has crippled it in software.
When I get into conversations I make it a point to tell other people this.
I suspect I have helped many people make a decision to purchase some other camera that is not intentionally crippled by profoundly stupid requirements on the software.
A requirement for an account will never be acceptable to me, the collection of my actions with out my permission will never be acceptable to me. While Gopro can do what it pleases with the software, pissing off your customers does tend to have unpleasent repercussions.

I will not buy another GoPro camera because of this mess.
It's really too bad. They used to be a leader by producing good products but now they are just mining for cash in my pocket.

the Sony X1000....
thanks for that, I took a look at it and it seems to be a good alternative to the GoPros.
I may have to purchase one and see how well it works.

to agents372. I would reccomend the newer one the Sony X3000 it has optical image stabilization digital zoom, much better menu and lots of other features the X1000 does not have and if you have the cash then include the Lifeview Remote 3. You won't be disappointed. Have fun or see on youtoube "Gopro hero5 Black vs Sony FDR X3000" from user iPhonedo

I am always out where there is no internet connection doing off road videos and aircraft videos. So when I get to altitude I loose remote connectivity. Are you kiddinbg me. This is a rediculos upgrade to pass onto all of us that rely on this application to frame our shoots. I wonder whos bright idea this was. I was about to buy a Hero 4, 5 and a session and now I will not unless this is fixed. No wonder your stock has been going down. You need to listen to the professionals.

You seem to be missing the point here.
Go Pro has introduced the requirement of HAVING to be internet connected at some point.
ie you seem to want to force us to operate clould centric - then when you want to collect data from us with out our permission.
How is this supposed to make me excited about GO PRO in general?
i USED to see the GO PRO as a really cool tool I could use in some shoots and such, (where there happens to be wirelell internet access). You would want me to have any* information go up into a clould (with out my permission yet) while I'm working for a customer on a shoot? Oh ya, thats going to go over real well.
Maybe I just dont use a go-pro.
That sound like the better plan.
