Saving To Phone Reduces Quality Of Video

[ New ]

I horizoned levelled a video. File size of the video in app shows as 3.74 GiB after editing. When I save the file to the phone, the file is reduced to 1.26 GiB and the quality is lessened. Bitrate is lessened quite a bit (100Mbp/s reduced to 33Mbp/s) which is my biggest concern. How do I not have this reduction in quality when saving to the phone?

Phone: Pixel 2 XL / Android 10 / GoPro App 6.19 (9404) / 15GiB of storage free
Camera: HERO8 Black v1.60

Here are the quality differences, the lines beginning with "-" are the original, the "+" is the converted video saved to the phone.

On upcoming update 7.2 GoPro App Android, bitrate will be increased. Export resolution is 1080p on Android, but bitrate will be higher so you should notice an improvement in the quality of your videos! :)

Yeah, another bit of trash programming by the superstar programmers at GoPro.

I made a long post listing crappy aspects of the software, incl. this.

There was a reply that this was a known problem. Look forward to it being fixed in 2025
