HERO 5 SESSION : Long Time lapse using GoPro iPhone App

I want to shoot a 30 day time lapse of a construction site (one shot every 60 seconds). Once I have installed the Session camera and set it up using Pro Tune - when I walk away to leave the camera recording, do I switch off the app on my phone?

If I come back a week later to check on progress, can I wirelessly reconnect my iPhone to see how this are going?

Thanks for your help

Re: HERO 5 SESSION : Long Time lapse using GoPro iPhone App

Hello @epicpeak18465

Some users have been able to do 24-hour, 10-day time lapses, and there was even an attempted 3-month long time lapse (no confirmation on how it went though) so a 2-week one that you plan on doing should work.

As the GoPro camera continues to record, however, there is a tendency for it to get hot. If a certain temperature is reached (so far rated at 125 deg F), the camera could shut down. But as long as you provide ample space around the camera to allow for air flow, the camera turning itself off should not be a problem. It will help to not put the camera directly under/over/beside a heat source, or inside a compartment that could exhibit temperature increase during the recording. In addition, since the door to the charging port will be kept open, make sure that the camera does not get wet as an open door would not make it waterproof.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Marius

Re: HERO 5 SESSION : Long Time lapse using GoPro iPhone App

Hi @epicpeak18465

Here are my insights on this:

1 It's not suggested to leave the camera connected/plugged in for a long period of time.

2 HERO Session cameras support up to 128GB. I am afraid this wont be enough given the amount of data that will be collected.

3 The camera wont connect to the app while there is an active recording.

GoPro cameras are a great way to capture time lapse photos and videos however there are things we need to put in consideration.

Has anyone tried to do a time lapse with this kind of set up? Feel free to post back on this thread.

Thanks!

Ej

Re: HERO 5 SESSION : Long Time lapse using GoPro iPhone App

Thanks for your comments advice. It is my intention to change the Micro SD card after 2 weeks to ensure not running out of storage capacity.

However, please could you elaborate on your comment regarding NOT running the GoPro camera for too long continuusly - what is the maximum time you ercommend if it is powered to mains electricity?

Thanks for your help.
