GoPro Hero 9 Black cannot be connected to Mac OS

[ New ]

Does anyone try to connect to GoPro Hero 9 to Mac or PC?

I connected to my Mac by USB type C cable and nothing happens in Quik, but webcome works.

My GoPro Hero 7 Black still works with my mac and it starts export all video and photo to Quik application after USB connection.

Hi @take09

Did it work with the SD card adapter?

Were you able to change the USB connection settings to MTP?

Thanks!

I had the same issue. Change the setting in your GoPro9 on the USB connection from GoPro Network to 'MTP'. MTP is for downloading whereas the GOPro Network is for live streaming. Hope this helps as it worked for me. Thanks

We were able to get to the content like this:

(OSX Catalina 10.15.7)

  1. Startup "Image Capture" (OSX built in)
  2. Unplug Camera
  3. Set Camera to MTP mode
  4. Reconnect camera

Toggle "Hide/Show" if the camera is not visible yet

The content shows up in Image Capture and can be imported from there.

Hi @shannonsnapper

What SD card are you using?

Are you still able to play the files on the camera?

Thanks!

Re: GoPro Hero 9 Black cannot be connected to Mac OS

Hi Ej - The card is the one that came with the camera (Scandisk extreme 32GB). I can see the media on the camera, on my phone and also in the gopro cloud. I just cannot actually upload them directly to my computer (macbook pro/Catalina 10.15.7) which is very disappointing. I downloaded some third party software (gopro quik) which seems to let me do it, but I dont even understand why gopro doesnt have its own software??? Very annoyed. I dont have a mini-SD card reader so I cant just shove it into my computer.

Hi @shannonsnapper

Are you referring to Quik for desktop?

Thanks!

Yes. It doesnt matter now because I found an SD adapter so I can see the files if I put it directly into the laptop. I'm sure others probably have this problem though...

So is there a solution for this?

GoPro Hero9 doesn't seems to work with the Mac. Is there a way to connect and export files?

Quick for Desktop listed as legacy software, so what should be used instead?

Hello, @zldez. Have you been able to do the suggested steps above? Make sure that your camera is set to MTP under USB Connections. You may explore other programs that can be used to view and edit your footage.

This worked for me

Ensure that you have the correct setting applied on your GoPro  in Preferences > Connections > USB Connection

  • Select MTP if you want to use file transfer

Re: GoPro Hero 9 Black cannot be connected to Mac OS

Image Capture default app on the my M1 2020 macbook pro with Big Sur Mac OS did the trick. Not sure why it wouldn't show in "finder" app, and or disk utility as an actual disk especially since it's reading a SD card inside the actual go pro???!!!!

However with "MTP" selected as a "connection" vs. "go pro subscription" this def did the trick. ✅✅✅

This REALLY sucks!!!

Get this fixed! Soon! Or all my friends and myself will return our recent GoWTF camera purchases... and tell all our other friends to avoid this product!

Hero 9 Black

settings: MTP

Quick shows that there is a "Connected Device" it knows it is a camera and displays "GoPro Camera" below but cannot id the camera name nor can it see any of the files on the camera.  This happened with my last GoPro Cam as well.

What ids the fix? I need the files offloaded asap!

Hello, @rockystar36026. The Quik for desktop app is no longer in development. While some functions of cameras may work with Quik for desktop, we have not provided any updates to the program prior to the release of the HERO8 Black and therefore we are unable to determine what features will work, what won't, and what consistency you may get with HERO8 Black, HERO9 Black, and MAX cameras.

You may explore other programs that can be used to view and edit your GoPro footage. If you have a compatible mobile device, you may also download the GoPro Quik. It will allow you to import, view, and edit your media.

Re: GoPro Hero 9 Black cannot be connected to Mac OS

[ New ]

Ok managed to get my GPH9 to connect to my Mac Mini M1 (Big Sur 11.3) FINALLY after taking it out of the Media Mod! Why on earth the machine wont recognise the camera while in the Media Mod I have no idea. I also had to then find the GPH9 in the default photos app to see my media as it wont show up on the desktop as a external drive??  GoPro care to offer a explination as to why I have to spend an extra 5 min of my life taking the camera in and out of the Media Mod just to get my media?????  Also your file transfer software between camera and phone/tablet is TRASH! Please for the love of God invest some of your money into real software that works seamlessley.....This is one of the most hated things about your company and also the rear touch screens, but thats for another day...Lastly you want us to use your free unlimited cloud storage but the media takles AGES to upload and that's even if it does, 99% of the time it just hangs and freezes so i abort this oportation always.  Get some real software in place its 2021 not 1981...

GoPro please dont become a NoPro...

I'm a new gopro user, and I'm already regreting it....

WTH finder don't see the files in camera???

I just want to copy files, not create fancy albuns with photos app!

I use Media mod pro, and constantly taking the camera out of it is out of question because it's not an easy task to open it.

Please fix this!!!

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with the camera not being detected on your computer, @alvesjc, and @karlkratz. To verify, is this observed only when the camera is connected to the Media Mod? Does it matter which app or program is used to access the camera/files? Are you both using Mac computers? Which OS? These details will help us isolate the issue. We hope to hear back from you. Thanks!

@mariustanya

I'm using MacOS BigSur 11.2.3

"

Yes, if you try to browse for the files with Finder (it's the app like Explorer in windows) you can't even see the mounted device.

Then if you go with the photos app, you see it.

But photos app is for other purposes, I just want to copy files.

If you conenct the camera to a windows machine it works in the explorer.

Re: GoPro Hero 9 Black cannot be connected to Mac OS

So an update on this issue.

While on call with the support, just found out that with Quik Desktop we can import the videos to the computer.

After importing, they will be available in the selected folder set as import path.

This is at least an workaround until they find out why we can't read the files directly with MacOS finder app.

The odd thing is that this WA is provided by a software that gopro doesn't support anymore... :)

Re: GoPro Hero 9 Black cannot be connected to Mac OS

The straight answer is NO.

They also closed my case saying basically that we would need to use the photos app, even when it was explained that, that doesn't work!!!

Their reply:

"Per our software development team, when you connect your HERO9 Black to the MacBook, please open Photos App. Then select HERO9 Black under devices and the photo then choose import. If you have other questions, please do not hesitate to request for a callback or chat with us.

"

So, from this you can understand that they are not willing to fix anything.....
