GoPro App iPhone 6 force convert 1080p when importing without quikstories

When filming @ 2,7k 50fps you can transfert video (or cut a short clip) with the GoPro transfert app but after that you cannot use it in Quik ( not supported) nor use it in some sharing apps because it is still too high frame rate or resolution. The quikstories transfert mechanism seems to force a 1080p conversion (as said in the support article) but it force you to convert and transfert your whole day/recent footage witch is very long and using too much space (or not enough space at all on my iPhone 6)
How to force this « quick storie »transfert with conversion for only video (or clip extract) I can chose Before transferring to my phone ?
I want to share quickly small extract in simple light HD format allowing using Quik app while on my vacation site but I want also to keep using high res 2.7k filming to allow further exploitation at home.

Thanks for your help

Re: GoPro App iPhone 6 force convert 1080p when importing without quikstories

Frustrating for sure. The only good news I can offer is that GoPro is working on the apps and constantly working to improve then. From what I understand from the GoPro Quik Beta Facebook page is that they are building a new app that combines the GoPro app and Quik. Perhaps it will over more control and options for the done transfers.

Re: GoPro App iPhone 6 force convert 1080p when importing without quikstories

Hi @olivierp0462,

I understand that this can be a bit frustrating as I would also love to share these videos in awesome high resolutions. However, not all devices support all of the resolutions that a GoPro offers. The performance of GoPro mobile applications will depend on your device.

The 2.7K at any frame rate resolution setting is not supported by Quik for Mobile in iPhone 6. Here's the link to an article that lists down the resolutions' compatibility with Quik for Mobile in iOS devices: https://gopro.com/help/articles/block/Quik-for-mobile-Supported-Resolutions-to-Copy-and-Share

What I can suggest is, you may be able to make use of separate mobile editing applications as long as they can handle the said video resolution, or maybe try to use a different mobile device compatible to your videos.

Hopefully this helps!

Ann

Re: GoPro App iPhone 6 force convert 1080p when importing without quikstories

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.
I had already read this article and what is frustrating is that it is said in this article (as an advice) that the quickstories transfer mode can do the downsizing of the video to offer editing on many devices but this functionality is « all or nothing »  and when I tried it filled up all my device storage (because too much recent video to download) and stopped... so useless. If only this kind of transfer « with conversion » was available for normal transfert it can allow quick share of small clip of a day (or a small story with quick) even if not many storage available on the device

You can offload or delete the files you don't want to use in the Quik mobile app prior to initiating the Quik Story transfer. Not the greatest solution, but that seems to be the only way you are going to be able to utilize 2.7K videos on your iPhone 6.

Re: GoPro App iPhone 6 force convert 1080p when importing without quikstories

Hi ! Thanks for your suggestion. I tried but I had only 10Go free and the whole day was nearly 15Go... so it ended badly (and I had to uninstall completely the app to recover lost space because GoPro app does not clean temp transfer space !)

I can try to free more space but I must offload every because if I miss a day it would transfert the two... and moreover it takes a lot of time to transfer and convert the whole day if I only want to use some smalls clips.

What is even most surprising is that when you select some videos from the camera on the GoPro app it gives you a choice to « send to Quik » : it could give the choice to do a « quickstory »  transfer at this point !

About transferts, note also that the windows app does the same : it transfert all files and does not gives you the choice
