@kevinl47261 - I discussed this topic back in October when the change was implemented. You can read that post at https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Apps-for-Mobile/Capture-Login/m-p/17946/highlight/true#M1122.
I don't have any more updates or feedback to share beyond that post other than to let you know that I have passed along the feedback from other members who share your perspective on to the teams that manage that app.

To me, the issue is not that you want us to login. The issue is that the app doesn't allow us to remain logged in. It doesn't even offer the option to save the email address much less the password. There is no other app on my phone that requires me to reauthenticate every time I use it.
That said, I'm usually around an internet connection. Reading other posts here I can see how frustrating it would be if I couldn't use the app simply because I was out having the kind of adventures gopro encourages.

Jeff, thanks for your input in this thread. However, that last post is less than clear on the issue of the login requirement. Does the update still require an active internet connection and login, or not? Will the GoPro app be useable outside the range of an internet connection?

@willyrok - In order to update any app, you will need connection to some type of service - wireless or mobile data. Once you've updated the app to the version we released a month ago, you will have the option to skip a separate login if you are somewhere where you do not have service. Here is what that looks like:
