Are you really working on the iPad App landscape issue?

[ New ]

Hi!

As you know, your mobile app doesn't work in landscape mode on iPads. I found questions dated since 2018:

2018:

https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Apps-for-Mobile/iPad-IOS-app-in-landscape-mode/td-p/221585

2019:

2020:

https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Apps-for-Mobile/Landscape-Mode-IOS/td-p/581028

https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Apps-for-Mobile/How-do-I-get-GoPro-8-to-work-on-my-iPad-in-land...

https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Apps-for-Mobile/How-do-I-get-GoPro-8-to-work-on-my-iPad-in-land...

https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Apps-for-Mobile/iPad-landscape/td-p/595897

https://community.gopro.com/t5/GoPro-Apps-for-Mobile/iPad-app-landscape-mode/m-p/606365

In all of those questions you said an issue were raised or you would let the team know. You also mention that the Android app works, what adds no value to iPad users.

Should we expect it to be fixed or are you having problems implementing this?

If so, I suggest you to either open source the app or crate and support an API so that we can build our own apps

Otherwise, at least include this information when your users are signing up for GoPro Plus.

Thank you!

Sorry about that @livelyoasi07705 the ticket for this implementation has been open and is in the backlog, it's not being worked on at the moment as other topics are the table.

I'm so sorry for your software product team, then. If such a disruptive bug gets deprioritized on their backlog I can't imagine what kind of problems they have on their hands.

Although, from you release notes, it's hard to believe this issue is on your team radar (see image). And just a feedback, I think you could put more love on those release notes. They look like undergrad commit messages.

So, as I don't believe this bug will be fixed any time soon, What's your suggestion for me to manage, update and control my Hero8, and also managing my GoPro Plus media and local media, using my iPad?
Is there another app with those capabilities, or should I physicaly rotate my tablet everytime I open the app?

---
I'm sorry if I'm sounding rude, it is just very frustrating. I didn't expect a brand like GoPro to be this bad at building software.
Maybe I will apply for that Sr. Director, Software Products position you have open. Smiley Wink

Thanks again! Have a good weekend.

Well why not? Do apply so you can help out :)

We're all trying our best... our Product trying to define what next stuff we should do, our dev to code as fast as they can with their little fingers, our QA to catch bugs before users catch them and yell, and me all in between trying to make sure users are happy and understood, telling Product, dev and QA that WE HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS but oh well not enough time on this planet...

Even our VP is waiting for this feature so have faith :) I'm really good at hoping, that's part of my job. But do join us and do some coding to make it happen, you're more than welcome! In your application, just add > Anaïs asked me to join!

Thanks for your kind reply!

I'm still far away from being a Sr. Director of anything, but maybe someday Robot Very Happy

I know, software is hard sometimes. I will keep an eye on your releases and hopefully the team can fit this fix in sometime soon. So far the app works fine other than this bug.

Thanks again for your support, Anaïs!  :)

Please fix this problem! Waited too long and I think this is not so hard to solve. So frustrating,

Now this app does not look that professional made as it should be.

@livelyoasi07705 @snowycrest60645

Currently no, we are not working on it. We have other topics that are on the table before that. It's clearly something that is asked by our users frequently and I regularly share this back with the Product team. I am pushing slowly but surely in the background to see how/where this can be added - sooner than later. One step at a time!

I'm so curious to learn what's higher priority than a 2 years old issue your users regurlary ask you to fix.

I wish I had an american work authorization to apply for that Sr Director, Software Products open position and help y'all with this. Robot tongue

Good luck, Anaïs!

In fact, go back to doing what you do best, making badass cameras, Release the API's and let the Open-Source community build the apps.

You'd literally sell even MORE cameras!

This really does need to be fixed and with higher priority. It makes things very frustrating for iPad users and particularly those of us who have bought your 360 cams (both Fusion & Max) as we must first use the GoPro app to create non-spherical clips. Even putting 360 aside, you market your app as a video editor (among other things) and therefore you obviously support landscape during editing. However forcing us to constantly flip our devices between portrait and landscape mode when we're moving across different screens makes no sense at all.

Supporting landscape on iOS is not a complex task at all, this is known. I'm a developer myself and can sympathize with needing to prioritize a lengthy backlog, however this is ridiculous for a video editing application.

Rest assured that I've been sharing this with the Team every chance I get. We are certainly aware that it's important for a video editing tool. We are doing our best with making new features, fixing old and new bugs and bringing stability to the app.

Hard to express my disapointment in GoPro without the use of foul language regarding this extrememly basic and expected feature in an app designed to work on an iPad.

I never use my iPad in portrait mode. For users that mount their iPads, this app is completely unusable.

Here we have a company that has made its success in outdoor action cameras (that film in landscape) - yet for some bewildering reason, has not seen fit to make their app usable in landscape mode. They know the problem, but it is such a low priority that they are not even trying to fix it.

I generally utilize Andriod products, but after some reading decided to purchase an iPad Pro for viewing and editing GoPro 360 videos. I would have never guessed the GoPro app would not to work in landscape mode on the iPad. It is extremely frustrating as I bought the iPad primarily for using it with the GoPro. Is there any progress on this fix?

Hi GoPro, I’m pretty pissed that this issue was not resolved 5 months ago, especially when the tech guy told me ‘we are working on a solution’. It’s a bloody simple coding error and patch! If you can’t get your existing products right then why go make more bad products. How about you focus on your loyal customers who are already are funding your company. I’m going to do a tech report about this issue on our radio station on Friday so may cost you a few of these $$$ in business. Fix now, simple!

And now there is a "new" app to replace the old GoPro app - called Quik (like another, older app - very confusing).

And this supposedly new app STILL DOESN'T SUPPORT LANDSCAPE ON IPADS!!! FFS...🙄🤬

please, stream this to the internet and share the link here!

GoPro, please, considere creating an open API to control your amazing camaras! Can you imagine all the badaas applications that could come up and amaze your clients?!

Best of luck with your backlog!

Agreed.  It's 2021.  Common - get this fixed.  It makes GoPro look super unpolished.

Re: Are you really working on the iPad App landscape issue?

[ New ]

I just bought the Hero 9 and wanted to use the App on-the-go to work on some stuff with my iPad Pro 2020.

Since I pretty much always have the iPad in the Magic Keyboard Case it is just a pain in the a** to use the app in potrait mode.

For a company that big it is hard to understand why the main app doesn't support landscape mode.

I mean it is all about foto and video content so landscape mode is an essential part of the GoPro experiance.

Even more strange that it already works with android.

Please GoPro team, push this.

(this topic is actually not new and nothing happens)

Best wishes

Phil

I do push this everyday but there's only a limited amount of people coding and testing and a limited amount of time. We can't do it all and it appears other topics have priority. For example, the team is currently working on Quality Export Settings, which I believe we can all agree is a high priority topic. It's not a matter of not wanting to implement, there's just too many things to do and we have to pick one at a time.

You need to stop lying to the customers. It's been 3 years. You've renamed the app and done a total revamp. Just tell the customers you're not going to fix the iPad landscape issue already. This is crazy frustrating. How can you seriously continuously tell people for THREE years that fixing landscape on iPad is on the roadmap but there are other things. You're trying to jam pack the camera and app with features but won't fix the foundation. Talk about backwards. Guess I'm just another iPad user with his iPad in a keyboard case that's totally screwed by GoPro's lazyness. I work in IT, and I am going to call this lazy and abhorent. Shame on the developers, the testers, shame on You if you say you "push this everyday but there are other things".  Again hyper dissappointed in your product service. The camera only makes up some of the experience. The video still has to be crafted in POST and not having landscape for a video editing app is beyond baffling.

I will support the previous post. It's just a shame !!! I have to pay crazy money for your camera and then rotate my iPad in all planes to get comfortable. And if you make your landscape orientation, do not write and do not brag about it. For three years you have been begging for this, not asking. Do not brag about this fix later.

Re: Are you really working on the iPad App landscape issue?

That's it. Frustration. I'm in IT as well and we know how a backlog works. If not done in so long, it's not backlog anymore, it is the icebox/parking lot/we-dont-care stories bucket.

GoPro here is either really bad with their development and need help modernizing the process, or they're just straight up liying for years.

And it's not like we're asking for a feature or an open api for the camera (check how neat insta360 api looks). We're asking just for a bug fix!

Anyhoo... It's just sad to see such an iconic brand, a modern and young company, treating their customers with such disrespect. :/

SHAME ON YOU GOPRO!!! When I got my Hero 7 I was having an issue and a tech buy from GoPro write a patch code in a few days which fixed it, and such a crucial fix has been ignored for 24 months!

There's a IPad movement going at the moment we are trying to get as many people on board to return your GoPros and demand FULL REFUNDS until this issue is resolved, go to DJI instead.

We need to hit the company where it hurts, their pockets. Go join the facebook group all!!!

I want to add to this thread because it is extremely frustrating not to have this working esp with the new Quik app.  I have the old Quik for IOS on my IPad and it works there.   Not sure why it isn't an easy matter to just port over the code to the new Quik app.  Note that your subscription has little value for Mural, etc. if IPad video editors cannot edit video in landscape.   I refuse to use the new app until this is fixed.

I will add to the chorus as well the app is such a great time saver on the phone but would be sooooo much better being able to use it with the magic keyboard in landscape mode. Such a great app and this is really my only quibble I would like to be able to move text to but other then that soo good I am paying the subscription for a month to try out and see if I can handle it but not sure after the first day.

At this point it’s just ridiculous. The android app has this feature YEARS ago.
There is not even this mod girl telling everybody that the issue is being addressed !!!EVERYDAY!!!
They’re simply don’t want to do that and since it’s 2021 and after 3 years this company doesn’t seem to get the most basic things done I will no longer support them (canceling my subscription and don’t even think about buying anything new) and advise my friends to do so as well. There are definitely other alternatives out there that are way more customer oriented.

Lets not have sleepless nights over this issue. Spread the word elsewhere like Reddit and other forums and hope they lose some sales. Might be far fetched for a someone with a monopoly now but others can come with something good or better.

Re: Are you really working on the iPad App landscape issue?

This is so crazy to me that the landscape mode on the iPad still doesn't work. GoPro has landscape versions of the app that work. Why are they blocking it from rotating into landscape mode when you rotate the iPad? There's no design work that even needs to happen, because it's already done. It feels strangely like they're actively preventing us from using landscape mode from some reason. What is going on?
