without gopro studio, do I simply import my hero5 .mp4's into final cut pro directly?

On a previous Macbook Pro, I used Gopro Studio to convert gopro mp4's into a .mov file and then edited in iMovie.  quality was very good. Now I have a 2018 iMac and no GoPro Studio.  Is importing .mp4's directly into Final cut Pro 10 the best method?  I also miss the ability to shorten the length of my clips before converting, although the process was tedious. thanks,,

You should be fine editing the .mp4 files directly from the camera.
