The current version of Quik for desktop only works with Windows 10. If you are working on a Windows 7 computer, you might want to check other editing software such as VSDC for Windows. Depending on the mobile device that you have, you can also explore using the Quik for Mobile App for your edits.

Yes, but we should be used to it by now. Reminds me of the joke about St. Peter. He's showing a newcomer around and they come to a high wall. The newbie says, "Who's in there?" St. Peter says, "Shhhh, that's the Catholics, they don't know there's anyone else here." I started using computers in 1982 and I've seen time and again how tech companies that arrogantly dictate to their users what they shall do eventually fail. It's a toxic attitude that can bring a company down. Good luck, GoPro. I'll probably upgrade to 10 in order to use your software if after investigating it in depth I deem it's worth my time. But I'll pass along the good word about your wonderful attitude.

When it comes to editing, there are many free alternatives that are much better. Fact is, the GoPro desktop editor isn't much of an editor at all. It literally is a program where you select a few videos, highlight a few important moments, choose the song, and then choose the video length that at the very longest can only be 1 minute in length.
For updating, there is manually updates and mobile updates. Both work fine.
For cloud storage with GoPro Plus, this can be done from the camera or the mobile app through Quick Story.
GoPro is a relatively small company with less than 1,000 total employees world wide. Those employees range from maintenance workers, secretaries, accounting, patent, and shipping to sales, customer service, camera development, accessory development, GoPro mobile app for Android, GoPro mobile app for iOS, GoPro Quik for Android, GoPro Quik for iOS, GoPro Splice for iOS, GoPro Plus, GoPro Cloud services, IT techs, Quality Control, International relations, regional store distributors, Project Managers, Product managers, New tech development engineers, Marketing, video production teams, and also the desktop software development. They only have so many resources to go around. Again, they are not a software company.
I love the idea that tech companies are arrogantly dictating to their customers, because you know, tech companies certainly aren't trying to better serve their customers and in doing so make a profit. There are so many smart people, as evidence by comments, that have all the answers. Answers that apparently are very simple. It's surprising that these geniuses don't just develop these solutions for all these tech companies. You'd can imagine all the money they could make.
It reminds me of a joke.
Once upon a time.....
Just update your OS or quit complaining.

I am apologizing for my unreasonably harsh comment. Sorry! It was the tenor of the tech agent's reply that prompted it - seemed kind of coldly official and unappreciative of the OP's feelings of frustration. I wish GoPro no ill and am thrilled with the Hero 7 Black which is perfect for my use case.

I work for one of the largest automobile OEMs in the world - which are generally considered stupid by "tech" companies like GoPro. Yet you offer no support for Windows 7, something that wasn't advertised on the 2 boxes of Hero 7s I just bought. If I were to sell you a car that didn't allow 5 year old gasoline pumps to dispense fuel into your car, you guys would be outraged.

Do you still manufacture cars that require leaded gasoline? Windows 7 has been discontinued.
Is gasoline optional for using your car? Your GoPro camera does not require the Quik Desktop App. Importing files can be done without Quik. Updates to your camera can be done without the Quik Desktop App. Editing of video and photo media can be done without the Quik for Desktop App.
