bad luck! exactly the same issue!
I launched it from Quik. Just to be sure I selected a different source file, I saved it under a different project name, I trimmed the file, converted it, and then in "edit" it freezes. same as with previous file.
I have also tried some online tips like "click properties and select run in win 7 compatibility mode" but it's all useless.

I have the same issue (laptop hardware: i7, 8 gb RAM, SSD, GeForce GTX 960M). The GoPro Studio is not responding/freezes randomly, when I cut/drag the video. Especially with clips larger than a minute it happens more often and makes the it impossible to work with it.
Task-Manager shows GoPro Studio: CPU 1-2%, RAM below 1GB and hard disk 300 MB/s. Waiting an hour is not chaning anything, have to kill the process.
I tried a lot of solutions described (reinstall v2.2, v2.3...; Update .net framework; Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1; start as administrator; safe mode; ...)
Fix would be nice...
