When i attempt to import using the GoPro App my Hero 4 + keeps disconnecting.
I notice that when I connect via USB, Mac Photo's launches and attempts to import, however it stops and the GoPro app disconnect.

I would verify that the software you are using is up to date. We released an update to the GoPro App, which also changed the name to Quik for Desktop. I would download and install the update if you haven't already, and then try to connect your camera again.
