Re: gopro plus slow upload speed

[ Edited ]

I've researched the problem of slow uploads extensively for days and have come to a conclusion as to the cause, at least in my instance. I took the Gopro survey just now, and entered this text at the end: "Gopro plus was working fine for me during the first free month. Once that ended, the upload speeds went from under an hour to 30 hours for the same file.

I've had a bellyfull of Gopro. I have every Gopro ever made except one, and this kind of nonsense has been the common thread through all of those purchases and uses. Enough is enough. I'm convinced Gopro is mostly just a con. BS and lies, and we virtually NEVER get what we pay for.

Re: gopro plus slow upload speed

Entitled to your opinion of course, but I've been a member of GoPro Plus for years now and upload speed haven't changed. Amazon handles the cloud servers, not GoPro but carry on with your conspiracy theories if you wish. For the fastest upload, try transferring to your mobile device. For whatever reason, the mobile app seems to upload much faster.

Oh, and the world isn't flat.

Re: gopro plus slow upload speed

Having the same isues - been on to customer support chat and this is what they have to say - what a joke:

Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:06:53): My name is Jenny. How can I help you?
Me (16/04/2020, 18:07:11): hi - why is the GoPro plus upload speed so bad ?
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:08:04): Hello David. My apology for the hassle with the regard to uploading process.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:08:32): im trying to upload my videos and it is taking far too long - checking my network and the upload speed is only 400 kb/s
Me (16/04/2020, 18:09:08): i have a 1 gig line up and down so its not my connection
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:09:32): As the camera proceed high definition quality of video and photo the actual size is double that also one of factors that caused the long process aside from the internet connection you have.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:09:36): i see this issue has been going on for well over a year when i google and see everyone complaining on your forums
Me (16/04/2020, 18:10:04): only reason it takes so long is the poor speed of 400kb/s
Me (16/04/2020, 18:11:00): and that is with your servers - i dont have this issue with anyone else like Iclould, Idrive, onedrive etc
Me (16/04/2020, 18:11:56): i have been uploading for over 5 hours and its only uploaded 4 gigs
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:12:36): I do understand your point but with regards to our GoPro Plus cloud storage, we ensure to copy the same file taken by the camera unlike other cloud storage that converts the bit rate or actual file codec to transfer it faster on there server.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:13:10): please please dont try that - i can see the file sizes and i know about network speeds
Me (16/04/2020, 18:13:40): i have uploaded 4gig in 5 hours, and i can see the speed is only 400 kb/s
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:14:13): We appreciate that you subscribe under GoPro Plus and you more welcome to switch with other cloud storage that can be more convenient on your part. But with regards to our GoPro Plus Cloud it will really take time for the footage to be upload.
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:15:38): By the way, what is the mode of your camera?
Me (16/04/2020, 18:15:44): that is not a very professional answer - basically saying take our really slow prehistoric speeds and the convenience of the gopro app doing to auto upload or go elsewhere
Me (16/04/2020, 18:16:18): mode of my camera will make no difference - 400 kb/s upload speed to your servers is the issue
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:16:50): I understand if you will look it on that way, but us mentioned that is how the process of auto upload on our cloud storage works.
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:17:17): You have read forums and I think you should be able to understand what I am trying to point out here.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:17:52): pleas eplease dont try to fob me off like you have everyone else that bring this issue up - just google it for yourself
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:18:07): Sorry for the confusion, I am actually asking for the model of your camera so I can put note of it here on my end.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:18:19): yes that Gopro cant not be bothered to sort their service out thats what i read on the forums
Me (16/04/2020, 18:18:34): i have the hero8 black
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:19:16): I see. But there will no be any difference with the process of auto upload for cloud storage, David.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:19:26): im trying to upload 25 gigs and at this rate it will take over 2 days
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:19:48): So as mentioned it will really take time for the footage to be uploaded on the cloud due to its quality and size.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:19:55): 2 days to upload 25 gigs is a joke
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:20:11): It is your prerogative if you wish to continue using our cloud storage,
Me (16/04/2020, 18:20:36): so basiclly as i said Gopro position is provide **bleep** service and if i dont like it leave
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:21:38): I understand if you see it on that way, I believe I provided the information why it takes time for the file to be auto upload on the cloud. It is your choose to believe it or not as that is how the process works.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:21:53): i would have been happier if you had said yes a 400 kb/s speed is very poor and slow and we will look into for you
Me (16/04/2020, 18:22:24): no you havent because you have not accepted that the 400 kb/s upload speed is slow and unacceptable
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:22:33): But that is not the case so I do not think saying lies will be necessary.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:22:47): or do you feel that is an acceptable upload speed ?
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:23:42): As mentioned it is your prerogative on what to believe on, as I have mentioned that it really times time for the files to upload on the GoPro Plus cloud due to its size and quality.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:24:06): i will ask again - is 400kb/s an acceptable speed ?
Me (16/04/2020, 18:25:01): i do hope you understand network speeds before you answer that question
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:25:36): We do not have any speed requirement for GoPro Plus upload. If you want to know more about network thing you contact your network provider.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:26:06): there is no isue with my network provider - i have a 1 gig line up and down
Me (16/04/2020, 18:26:27): 1 gig = 1,000 Mb/s
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:26:41): Well I believe I do not mentioned that there is an issue with the network you have.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:26:43): Gopro server is providing 400 kb/s
Me (16/04/2020, 18:27:16): then why tell me to contact m,y network provider ?
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:29:18): "Visitor i will ask again - is 400kb/s an acceptable speed ?01:24:06" > as this is about upload speed you can contact your network provider as they can better explain it to you.
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:30:23): As mentioned before it will really take time for the files to be uploaded on the cloud provided the server of the cloud storage which you already know.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:30:32): Speed: 400 KB/s Size: 25 GB 20 Hours, 01 Minutes and 29 Seconds
Me (16/04/2020, 18:31:04): yes because GoPro prove a very slow network speed
Me (16/04/2020, 18:31:27): as per above at 400 kb/s it will take 20 hours to upload
Me (16/04/2020, 18:31:33): as 25 gig file
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:31:39): I think we are going back in circles here, given the fact that the server will not be change as it is how the cloud storage works.
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:32:13): I do not want to take more of your time, you can submit your feedback here: https://gopro.com/en/it/feedback regarding the process.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:32:14): well its good to know that GoPro think that 400 kb/s is an acceptable speed
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:32:42): But my apology nothing will change with the information I provided earlier.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:33:17): so you can confirm that the best that GoPro will ever provide is an upload speed of 400 kb/s
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:34:10): I do not think it is something that should be confirm with or even necessary to begin with,
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:34:25): That will not resolve or speed up the process.
Me (16/04/2020, 18:35:25): ok - thank you for wasting 30 minutes of my life and not understanding a single issue with your could services and telling me to like it or lump it. GoPro customer service at its best
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:36:59): You are most welcome, David. As I believe I have provided the explanation for this on the first 5 minutes of conversation but the question get back in circles for the last 30 minutes.
Jenny (16/04/2020, 18:37:10): Thank you for contacting the GoPro support! By the way, if you do not mind, please stay for a question survey. You have a wonderful day and please be safe! Bye for now.

Re: gopro plus slow upload speed

It's not GoPro Servers, it's Amazon.com servers. GoPro utilizes Amazon cloud service to provide the GoPro Plus cloud service.
