hi. my gopro app desktop has stopped working all of a sudden a couple of days back. It used to work prefectly fine, and I have even tried reinstalling it but to no avail. can somebody help me figure out what the matter is?

I have this same issue. Started August 4, 2016. I have contacted GoPro Support four times and I still have this issue. Have uninstalled/reinstalled at least a dozen times. Run as adminstrator, checked for compatibility issues, undated all Windows multiple times, etc. Nothing has been working. I am able to open the Studio portion and have no issue until I click "Launch GoPro" then everything closes out.
Both icons are on my desktop and clicking the GoPro Desktop App one does nothing. Will not even display in task manager.
Someone please help solve this issue as GoPro Support has once again "elevated" my problem to another department.

tell me about it. i did exactly what you have with no results whatsoever. it's been a month now and the problem still persists. it makes retrieving videos and pictures so troublesome, getting really frustrated.

A full format of my iMac and clean install, and it now works again but I dont know if that was the solution or I just got lucky.
Gopro have not even responded to this issue im very disapointed with them.

If the GoPro App for Desktop does not automatically launch when you connect and power on your camera to the computer, we can temporarily disabling Use Account Settings (UAC).
Please right click Start and click on Control Panel.
Then, click on User Accounts.
Next, click on Change User Account Control Settings.
You should see this:
Slide the slider bar all the way to the bottom to Never Notify.
This will disable User Account Control.
If the GoPro app does not launch, this would indicate something wrong with the computer.

These were the instructions emailed to me. After following them, the app is still not working. GoPro contacted me by phone today to follow up. I told them that the problem persisted. I sent a link to this post, informing them that I am not the only one with the issue. In a previous conversation I was told that it is a problem with my computer, but I have not had time to take it to the shop. I have Windows 10 on a year-old computer.
