Re: Studio Keeps Freezing, 1t week of Ownership.

Hi @bonzo1

Thanks for replying back with all that. To be totally honest I'm not entirely sure what the AMD agent was saying. It looks like the article they sent you is for playback of footage at a resolution of 4K, which would indeed require more than the minimum system requirements since it's the maximum video resolution on our cameras.

If you've indeed finished updating your graphics driver and its running higher than OpenGL 3.2 then I think that that should be okay.

To clarify the Archive option, this simply writes the video in a different format. The reason I'm suggesting to test that is because it may export up to 89% and then have exported part of the video rather than failing entirely due to the issue happening at 89%. The reason I am wanting you to try this and also to try a different video is to see if there might be an issue with the actual video file.

Just to clarify, you are not having any problems on the older version of Studio you tried?

Hi Matt, yeah the more i though of it, re their comment about being compatible and not, i read into it like yourself, my GUI wont support 4K, but thsat is a no brainer anyway.

As to any problems with the older version, well unfortunatley the answer is a big YES.

Edited and stitched 4 clips together, added a soundtrack, saved to archieve and it gets as far as 35% and freezes, hangs again?

Ahrrrgh! Just when i though i had this system beat and was onto a winner lol.

@bonzo1

You might want to try playing around with the format and bitrate of your export and see if that helps.  To do this, choose "custom" as your export type.  Try 1080 or 720 as the type and reduce the bitrate to somewhere around 8-12.

Also, prior to exporting, clear all video and media clips from step one and step two on the left side panel and save the project. Close and reopen the project and then try exporting (you might want to try this first before messing with the custom export settings).

Other unproven options you can try are:

Run Gopro Studio as Administrator

With GoPro Studio running go to Task manager and under Processes, Select GoPro Studio>Priority and set to high

Run compatibility checker

Finally, do you have any Flux applied to your video clips?  If so, try exporting with "Apply Flux" unchecked.  If it works, your computer might not be able to handle the processing of Flux.  There are ways to get around this so if this ends up being the issue, let us know and I'll write up a step by step on how to apply Flux when your computer crashes (I'm going to do a video tutorial as soon as I get some free time).

Regards,

Daniel

@danielr15.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have just tried deletingh from sidebar, saving in all 3 formats, smallest size (mobile) and 12fps frame rate. Each and every time the video transfer, save freezes around the 35-38% transfer point.

Went into Task Manager and tried to alter priory, only to be met with a "The operation couldn't be completed, access is denied" message?

@danielr15. Managed to change the priority in the task manager (had to remove admin privilages first), but made not one bit of difference to the processing. Studio still freezes up and is as useful as the wallpaper on my desktop for decorative purposes only.

Re: Studio Keeps Freezing, 1t week of Ownership.

@bonzo1

I can only imagine the frustration.  Since I can't replicate this issue it's hard for me to trouble shoot.  Let's start from the beginning and maybe we can get to the bottom of this. Some of these questions might seem totally unrelated or redundant but bare with me, I just want to get as much info on one reply as possible.  You never know, it might help someone else identify the problem.

  1.  What GoPro camera did you use to capture the video?
  2.  What SD card (make and model) did you use?
  3.  What Settings did you use?
    1. resolution/fps
    2. Protune y/n
  4. Step One of GoPro Studio Conversion settings
    1. Default/Source frame rate/image size (if not, what changes did you make?)
    2. Fish eye correction?
    3. MOV or AVI?
  5. How many files were converted and how long is each?
    1. Where are these files located on your computer?
  6. Step Two GoPro Studio settings
    1. Did you change playback speed?
      1. What % did you reduce the speed?
      2. How many times and what is the run time for the reduced speed clip(s)?
      3. Did you apply Flux?
  7. How long is your total project?
  8. What other settings/changes to the project?
    1. Keyframes, zoom, color corrections, speed up/down, reverse, ..etc.
  9. What formats have you tried to export your project as? (I believe you said you tried them all)
  10. How much space is on your hard drive? What file location are you exporting to?
  11. Are you running any Anit-Virus/Spy/malware programs?

That's about all I can think of as far as questions.  Maybe someone else has a question or two that will help trouble shoot this.  I think if you answer these questions though, it's a good start.

Also, and this probably will do absolutely nothing in the way of fixing your issue, but you might as well run chkdsk https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/fix-hard-drives-chkdsk-windows-10/ and defrag your hard drive.  You also might want to find and run a registry cleaner.  Most importantly, manually run your windows update a few times until there are absolutely no updates, system or optional, available.  And double check that the video driver is in fact up to date now.

Hoping we can get this figured out for you,

Daniel

Re: Studio Keeps Freezing, 1t week of Ownership.

  1.  What GoPro camera did you use to capture the video?  Session
  2.  What SD card (make and model) did you use? Sandisk Extreme SDXC UHS-I 64Gb
  3.  What Settings did you use? In Which regard?
  4. resolution/fps  1080, 30 & 60 as well as 720 but only has 100fps.
  5. Protune y/n  Y & N Tried both but have Pro Tune on just now.
  6. Step One of GoPro Studio Conversion settings ??
  7. Default/Source frame rate/image size (if not, what changes did you make?) Yes
  8. Fish eye correction? No
  9. MOV or AVI? Tried all 3, Mov, AVI, MP4
  10. How many files were converted and how long is each? Was trying 3 cut down files from stage 1, also tried with 1 file which works. Duration was anything from 20 seconds to 90 seconds, maybe a little more. End result was a video at around 2.5 minutes long.

    1. Where are these files located on your computer? Libraries, Pictures
  11. Step Two GoPro Studio settings
    1. Did you change playback speed? Not initially, then i did later. Half and under.
    2. What % did you reduce the speed? Can't remember.
    3. How many times and what is the run time for the reduced speed clip(s)? Don't know. I'm only at the basics just now, as not being able to fully use the programe.
    4. Did you apply Flux? Haven't a clue, what is it? If it's not im my face, i wont use or try it, until i become familiar with the software etc.
  12. How long is your total project? 2Min 30Sec. Not a projest, more a test file to get the program doing what it is supposed to do and get all the way to stage 3.
  13. What other settings/changes to the project?
    1. Keyframes, zoom, color corrections, speed up/down, reverse, ..etc. Only some Exposure changes
  14. What formats have you tried to export your project as? (I believe you said you tried them all) Yes, AVI, MOV, MP4
  15. How much space is on your hard drive? What file location are you exporting to? just short of 300GB free, exporting to same folder as mentioned above, Libraries, Pictures
  16. Are you running any Anit-Virus/Spy/malware programs? Yes, MCAfee, IObit Malware Fighter

I cut back on what i was trying to do, publish and started to work with much shorter durations, just to actually get the program to do what it is supposed to. So just realyy all as trial & error excersise until this frustating software does what it says it's supposed to do!

Re: Studio Keeps Freezing, 1t week of Ownership.

@bonzo1

I'll take a closer look at this later as I'm running out of time right now.  However, right off the bat I can advise and make a couple of recommendations.  It might not cure all your ills but it should help.

Temporarily disable your antivirus/malware while you are exporting.  You want as much available resources as possible for Studio.

When reducing the speed of a video clip, Enable Flux is checked by default.  Uncheck this.

gopro_flux_where_location.jpg

Also, without Flux, the most you should reduce your clips is:

1080/60  speed 40%,

720/100  speed 24% and

1080/30 not much, maybe 92%

You can go lower but it doesn't look as good unless you apply Flux.  Flux is most likely NOT your computer's friend, so don't use it (at least for now).

Good luck!

Daniel
