Several Media Issues with Quik for Mac

I open Quik and I'm prompted to add my media.  This was done previously but I run a scan on my media folder again anyway.  The media shows up and I add some Highlight marks and perform other general scrubbing of the clips.  However I notice that when I open those clips again none of the Highlights I just added are present.  Then I decide to just go ahead an edit the clips but when I select the clips and click "Open in Create Mode", the "Adding Media" popup show my number of clips but then I'm informed that I need to select the media first "Please Choose Media".  (I've done this several times and several different ways, all which have worked in the past.)  I close Quik and reboot.

Subsequently reopening Quik there's no media displayed (prompted to add media), even after just spending the previous 20 minutes scanning the folder defined in the Media Folders.  Previous Highlights performed on the media after loading aren't saved (probably because I had to rescan the source media folder again).

Lastly, selecting any media, by any method, will not open in Create Mode.

 

Media is stored on an external harddrive that is connected prior to starting Quik.  All media is from a Hero5 (photos/video).

Quik for Desktop - Mac 2.7.0.874

MacOS - 10.13.6

 

I am well versed in video editing and I've used this application before without these current issues.  All media is present and playable within the application.

@ricsimonis, I find it strange that Quik for Desktop on your Mac computer won't go past "add media" prompt when opening Create Mode. I do have a few more suggestions here that might help.

  1. Close Quik for desktop and open a Finder window
  2. Click Go at the top of your desktop menu bar
  3. Hold the alt/option button and select Library
  4. Under Library, select the Application Support folder and delete the following folder:
    • com.GoPro.goproapp.GoProExporterService
  5. Next, under Library, select the Preferences folder and delete the following files:
    • com.gopro.desktop-suite.plist
    • com.gopro.GoPro.plist
    • com.GoPro.goproapp.plist
  6. Restart Quik for desktop and see if the issue persists.


You may also try reinstalling the Quk for Desktop. Note that you will have to re-add the media contents to the software after reinstallation.

Try transferring the files to your computer's internal hard drive instead.

Add the folders again under Media.

I’ll give that a try, but that seems to be a bit of a limitation.  Especially on a Mac, shouldn’t matter what drive it’s on (there’s no drive letter).

Move some of my files to the internal drive, same result.  Removed and re-added the folder, it was scanned automatically and media added.  Closed the application and reopened it to which I was prompted to ADD MEDIA.

 

No joy.

@aenriquez, it wasn't that I couldn't get past "Add Media" it was just that I was prompted for it everytime I opened the app.

 

Cleaning out ALL of the preference and library files/folders appears to have cleared up my problem.  I've done this in the past whenever I have an issue with an application but I honestly couldn't remember where all of those files were stored.  (Haven't had to remove an application in a while.)  Thanks for that info.

 

As a result I did end up doing a complete re-install of the software (didn't have anything saved that I couldn't live without).  I added the storage location and was automatically scanned for media.  That scan of the external drive added the media (video and pictures) appropriately and it was still there after closing and re-opening the app.  I'm now assuming that there was a corruption of my media database file.  This of course was  a part of the Preferences and Application Support deletion.

 

FYI, I also had some older GoPro apps installed that I removed and wiped out those preferences and library files/folders just to be sure I'd removed everything.
