Ready to throw out my GoPro.

So I bought a GoPro, and I can take a movie with it, but when I try and simply get the movie to my desktop, I get totally frustrated with the editing, conversion, titling, and just simply getting a movie to send. I really don't want to edit what I shoot, and am ready to throw out the whole thing and just go get a regular video camera. Any suggestions before trashing it?

Re: Ready to throw out my GoPro.

Hi @fritzl51, in addition to what @chrisediting shared with you, if you are operating on the new GoPro App for Desktop, when you import your videos, your video and photo files are already saved on your hard drive. This means you do not have to do any editing to share your imported files. Here are some steps to share your media on Facebook:

  1. Make sure you have the most recent version of GoPro App for Desktop
  2. Connect your GoPro to your computer via USB cable or microSD card reader/adapter. If camera is connected, power on device.
  3. Gopro App for Desktop should detect your media and initiate the import.
  4. Double click on the photo/video you want to share on Facebook.
  5. In the lower right-hand corner, click "Share."
  6. Select "Facebook." Click "Share."
  7. If not entered already, enter in your credentials to login to Facebook.
  8. Provide a title and description of photo and click "Share"
  9. Media will then be posted on your Facebook feed.

Hope this helps out. Come back and let us know if this works for you.

Re: Ready to throw out my GoPro.

Sorry about that @fritzl51.

I would recommend you to using easier settings on the GoPro.

A camcorder settings can also be the same on the GoPro,

the best pro film video is 1080p @ 30 fps then use protune to unlock more

features of the GoPro video's. Also lot's of users are now using Mac or mobile device apps

that will edit video's on their own. Some are free, and some have a small price tag.

But you can upload videos or import them. If you have any questions I'll be happy to

help you out on software's and video settings.

Hope that helps.

Chris.

Re: Ready to throw out my GoPro.

I wish it did help. I'm not having any problem with the camera itself. I shoot the content, then plug it into my Mac desktop. I can get it to the view, step one, and can convert it. But I have no need to edit it, and simply want to put the video on my desktop, either stand alone, or in a file, so that I can send it in an email, or share it on Face book. The GoPro editing step is very frustrating, and there is no apparent way of bypassing it. I don't even need to shorten it. I can play it on the GoPro app, but that's it. I'm not completely illiterate when trying new software, but there is no place that I've found to get help, and the YouTube tutorials are next to useless. Any suggestions for where to go from here?

I just wanted to quickly add to this question. So the steps you describe are:

Here are some steps to share your media on Facebook:

  1. Make sure you have the most recent version of GoPro App for Desktop
  2. Connect your GoPro to your computer via USB cable or microSD card reader/adapter. If camera is connected, power on device.
  3. Gopro App for Desktop should detect your media and initiate the import.
  4. Double click on the photo/video you want to share on Facebook.

  6. Select "Facebook." Click "Share."
  7. If not entered already, enter in your credentials to login to Facebook.
  8. Provide a title and description of photo and click "Share"
  9. Media will then be posted on your Facebook feed.

OK - i am ok until step 6. then i am presented with a small window asking me to login to Facebook. As I login, i get asked to check Facebook notifications, because this is the first time that Quik is trying to access Facebook. In Facebook I check notifications and allow this new 'browser' access to facebook.

The next screen is my Facebook timeline. No video, no nothing....

So i close the Facebook window and try again. Same process, agin i am asked to verify that Quik wants access and allow access through the Facebook notification center. again no sigar.

I have now tried this 10 times, but it just does not work as described.

Your support would be appreciated.

Re: Ready to throw out my GoPro.

Hi @pajonline

Sorry your post has sat here for a bit without any responses! Have you made sure to update the Quik Desktop App to the latest version? There should be an update option on the App itself or you can download the latest version HERE

Please also try logging into Facebook independent from the Quik App so that you're logged in there. Then are you able to share via the Quik App?

I also tried to find the update option in Quik - but cou

ld not find it.

more help is appreciated.

My setup:

Windows 10

Microsoft Edge

Surface Pro 4

Re: Ready to throw out my GoPro (SOLVED)

so - as a follow up to my previous post. I manually updated Quik to the latest version (2.0.1.4320) and BAM... problem solved. I was succesful in uploading a 1080 9sec video. I was not succesful uploading a larger file - but this could be due to restrictions put by Facebook on size and resolution.

Problem solved. Thanks for the support.
