Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

Just started to try and edit my first GoPro footage. I initially went straight into studio as it sounded like Quik wasn't really a full editing package but after doing some hunting it seems you can only add the GPS overlays through Quik (is this true?). So i went back to Quik to try and add the overlays but it is just crashing continuously. I can get as far as importing clips but doing anything further seems to kill it, whether that's going as far as trying to edit something or simply just maximising the window. Anyone know a fix?

Re: Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

Just a quick update.

I solved my issue with GPS overlay crashing by using a SSD HDD instead of the conventional HDD.

When i posted my issue with GPS overlay initially I had two computers - one on which it worked and one on which GPS overlay did not work.

Going through the paces I realised that the only major difference between the two computers were the HDD. Already running an SSD on computer with GPS overlay issues, it was just a matter of setting Quik up differently so that all video was fetched on SSD rather than on older HDD.

If anyone else with GPS overlay crashing issues has the means to confirm that an SSD drive og similar fast HDD would fix the issue, that would be great. It worked for me :)

Best regards,

Martin

Re: Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

@el-nombre - The telemetry gauges are only available in Quik for Desktop. I'm not sure why the app is crashing on you. If you haven't already, please make sure your computer meets the minimum specs for the program and that your version is up to date.

If that's not it, please reach out to our Support team at https://gopro.com/help/PKBContactus and we'll try to troubleshoot this with you.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

Hello,

I have the problem, that when trying to overlay any telemetry data (even just the logo) from my Hero 5 Session in Quik the app crashes. All other things could be done in Quik without problems. Do you have any hints for me? These are my specs from dxdiag:

Re: Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

I also tried this on another machine with same results. Most probably this is due to the fact that the camera is a Hero 5 SESSION. But when the session is not compatible with the Quik telemetry feature, the app still should not crash but give an information window or something like this.

The other machine specs are:

Re: Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

I've been having the same problems. I made sure everything was up to date, but besides that I am not sure what else to try other that trying in windows safe mode. Is there a fix to this? I got it to work once on the same machine it now crashes on. Will try on my laptop late, but I'll have to download some footage first. Wifi is slow in this hotel room

Re: Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

Anyone found a solution to this problem?

Same happens on my computer. Quik works fine, but when I try to add GPS telemetry the program closes.. no error.. nothing..

I've tried installing Quik on my other computer (which is no nearly powerfull enough for videoediting), and here the GPS telemetry works fine. So some sort of Windows compatability issue maybe?

Re: Quik keeps crashing (and GPS overlays)

Any solution to this issue yet? I have the same problem with my new gopro 6. Tried quik on two different computers both of which run on windows 10. Both always crash when I try to use gps data overlay.
