Re: QUIK Is Erasing My Footage

Jeff, I'm glad GoPro are finally engaging with this problem.

However, the problem is summarised quickly and easily, with this one screenshot (below).

Quik KNEW that only 33 of 62 videos had been imported, leaving 29 videos on the card; then ran the 'autodelete' feature anyway.

This is the EXACT reason so many of us have lost footage.

Simply fix it. Tell Quik NOT to autodelete a card unless it has imported ALL videos.

Re: QUIK Is Erasing My Footage

@mattr05781 - That is weird that only the first file came through (the THM and LRV files aren't imported). I am passing this on to our Quik team to see if we can get more info.

Re: QUIK Is Erasing My Footage

@p-ride - Auto-delete is off by default. It only turns on if the user selects it to be turned on. The user can also turn it off at any time. If you're concerned that all of the files are not being imported, I would recommend that you turn auto-delete off. I have it off on my own system. It's pretty easy to delete the files once the import is confirmed.

Re: QUIK Is Erasing My Footage

Yes, of course I've turned off auto-delete and now manually delete my videos.

However, we ALL ended up in this thread AFTER we'd tried out the autodelete feature and lost footage.

More people who have no idea this thread exists are going to try out 'autodelete' (a commonly-used feature on all camera software packages), lose valuable footage and get very angry.

Telling anyone who joins this thread 'turn off autodelete' does NOT bring back the footage they've already lost.

As we say in England, it's 'Closing the door after the horse has bolted'.

I had to spend a whole weekend installing Windows on my Mac and running specialist data recovery to get my videos back.

Turning off autodelete means this won't happen again; but I'm still angry I lost a weekend in the first case.

Quik has an error with its autodelete feature which will continue to wipe footage of GoPro users who don't know the error exists.

As a software professional, I strongly recommend you fix it.

Re: QUIK Is Erasing My Footage

I too am glad there’s some attention here on Quik issues, and appreciate that Jeff. But frankly, the auto-delete issue is the tip of the iceberg for many others and me. Just look at all the forum topics bringing up different problems they’re having with Quik and it’s obvious a lot of attention is required.

Here’s my rundown of existing “bugs” I run into all the time with Quik:

  1. Quik looks at my camara and says there are “no files to import” when clearly there are files on the SD card…it even tells me how many files
  2. Quik sometimes doesn’t see any files at all when there are files there. When I switch to my SD card reader Quik can see the files and import them
  3. This is the most bothersome one: On the occasions when Quik actually works and downloads the files…they are not found at all within the Quik app. No files in recent downloads, media, etc. So…therefore….I can’t access any of my videos via Quik…which means that I can’t do any editing of them and have to just view them with Quicktime Player. That really sucks since taking video and editing is what this is all about right?
  4. Quik tells me I have an update for my camera but when I click update, it doesn’t even take a half second before it tells me “update failed.”

I hope there’s a solution to #3 since I have successfully maneuvered around the auto-delete problem. Should I delete the entire folder system originally set up by GoPro and start over?

Re: QUIK Is Erasing My Footage

This just happened to me and I have never been so upset with technology. So many great memories just got lost. I even bought an $80 recovery application just to hope that it'd recover the data. Quicktime couldn't play the file! So many great memories with family and friends.
