Problems with GoPro Quik App for Windows Desktop

[ New ]

Unable to login to the Quik App on my Windows Desktop.  To whit, there is no response to my clicking the Sign-In link at all.  Any thoughts?

As an aside I just looked at my profile page here on the website and it shows I only registered 3m ago???!!!!  My recollection is that I registered over a year ago.  So that's concerning also.

Let me know what can be done to square this away.  Thank you.

Re: Problems with GoPro Quik App for Windows Desktop

Hi @Anonymous

I am really sorry for any troubles caused. We have this issue already raised to the team in charge.

Please see if the steps below will work on your end:

  1. Open Quik for desktop
  2. While on the login screen, select the "Help" tab above the Quik for desktop window
  3. Select "Restart with default settings"
  4. A modal will appear saying "Are you sure?". Click "Restart" once more.
  5. Quik for desktop will close and reopen. Quik for desktop will appear as if you installed it for the first time.
  6. Go to the login screen and input your credentials. You should then be able to login successfully.

If you are still experiencing the same, attempt to perform the below options:

  1. Close Quik for desktop while the "Authenticating" message is appearing
  2. Disconnect the computer/laptop from Wi-fi or remove ethernet cable if one is connected to ensure there is no connection to the internet
  3. Open the Task Manager on the computer(Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for "Quik.exe" under the background processes.
  4. Right-click "Quik.exe" and select "End Task"
  5. Keep the internet connection disconnected and launch Quik for desktop. Confirm that it properly opens, then re-enable Wi-fi.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

Ej

Re: Problems with GoPro Quik App for Windows Desktop

[ New ]

Hi there,

I am having a very similar problem. When I launch the GoPro Quik app on either laptop in my house I am prompted with the message "The app needs an internet connection to sign you in." My work laptop is newer and much quicker so I'd like to be abke to use that as it has i7 compared to i5 processing. Maybe there is some privacy setting blocking this that I am unaware of but I have tried restaring the app within the help settings and also just completly deleting the app and redownloading it again. Neither has seemed to work.

Do I need my camera on or plugged in for this to work? Just bought the new hero7 black so am clueless as to how this all works. Was able to edit a bit on my phone but is not the same.

Appreciate any help you may provide!

Thanks,

Zach

Hello  @zacharyj44

Quik for desktop can be accessed even if there is no camera connected to your computer. When a camera is connected, Quik should automatically launch and provide you an option to import files. If you are able to login to your GopPro account through gopro.com/login successfully, try the steps below, in the proper order and see if you will be able to login to Quik:

  1. Restart Quik for desktop with default settings.
  2. Restart computer.
  3. Uninstall/reinstall Quik for desktop.
  4. Create new gopro.com user account and attempt to reproduce the issue.
  5. Create new user account on local computer and attempt to reproduce the issue.

Let us know how it works out. We would also like to know if the email address  that you are using is associated to a GoPro Plus account.

Thanks,
Marius

Hi again,

Thank you for the quick response. After restarting Quik and my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling, and creating a new username I was still prompted with the same message. Even before attempting to sign in the message is present (see below). But yes the email associated with my account is a Go Pro Plus account.

Hi @zacharyj44

Can you confirm if you are able to login via gopro.com?

Also, are you able to disable Wi-FI and connect to the internet via ethernet cable?

Thanks!

Ej

Yes I am able to log into gopro.com on this laptop/other devices but am yet to find the time to plug in via ethernet cable. I'm definitely connected to the internet though which leads me to believe its a privacy setting on my work laptop. Should be able to try on a friend's Mac desktop this weekend and I will try the ethernet cable then too.

Appreciate you taking the time to try to resolve this issue!

Re: Problems with GoPro Quik App for Windows Desktop

[ New ]

Not sure what happened but it's working now with no problems. I did have some other general questions though.

Once I see that my videos/pictures are uploaded to the cloud am I able to delete these from the actual go pro itself - as I keep getting low memory pop ups?

Is there any limit to the amount I can upload to the cloud?

I mistakenly downloaded a video from the cloud onto my phone so I was able to delete it to create space on the SD card - is there a way to get it to reupload to the cloud so I can delete it from my phone?

Lastly I see in a lot of editing videos that people are able to just cut/slice their videos to get the exact say 10 seconds here and 15 seconds there in order to stitch a bunch of clips from different videos together... when I use quik though it seems to only allow me to chose highlights which sometimes takes too little or much of the wrong footage. Wasn't sure if there was something I was missing.

Appreciate all the help!

Dear Go Pro.

I read a discussion of you with a customer. I wonder what is exact issue with Quik that I couldn't play 3K video smoothly with my brand new laoptop.

It can be a variety of issues, but typically they come down to processing issues on the playback system. To free up processing power, close other programs and play the videos from the files on the hard drive, not from the SD card.

Re: Problems with GoPro Quik App for Windows Desktop

This problem starts in the gopro because the camera in some files adds in the file wrong file description and that's why the gopro quick can not open it.

Hay muchas personas con el mismo problema parecido solo falta que lo solucionaran lo antes posible.

https://superuser.com/questions/117498/how-do-i-fix-handbrake-mp4s-that-produce-error-2041-when-load...

https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2882#p29999

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1089403

The quicktime throws this error :

error -2041: an invalid sample description was found

Probably there are programs that do not read this description and analyze the file before giving the case what the description says and they work well: as for example VLC, Windows Media player ... but there are many who die in the attempt: Quicktime, Quick gopro... because they use the same core.

It will only be necessary to repair it as soon as possible.

Hi @coolmesa25308

Are you able to play the files on Quik for desktop?

Do you still remember the resolution used?

What SD card are you using?

How was the import done, is it via SD adapter or USB connection?

Thanks!

Ej

Re: Problems with GoPro Quik App for Windows Desktop

[ New ]

Hola aragon1006,

No no estoy capas reproducir los archivos en el Quick de desktop porque se congela sin dar respuesta, como se que quick gopro necesita  tener instalado y probablemente usa como core quicktime  pues lo probe  abrir alli y sale mensaje:

'Error -2041: An invalid sample description was found in the movie'

Cuando  sali de casa he configurado la camara : 16:9   4K 60FPS output -> H.264 + HEVC

Hi @coolmesa25308

Thanks for the feedback.

The settings should be retained even if the SD card/ battery has been removed from the camera.

If you haven't already, please try re-flashing the software. https://gopro.com/update/hero7-black
