Overcapture on iPhone Exports without Sound

I made some overcapture videos in the GoPro App from my fusion, and they play fine with audio on the phone, but whenever I import them into my windows 10 pc, the video comes across perfect but without any audio.  I have imported through the windows Photo viewer, have found the files on the phone through Explorer and copied and pasted, have exported the videos through the cloud - nothing works. The moment it leaves the phone, it does so without audio.  Help!

Re: Overcapture on iPhone Exports without Sound

Hi @jedijurist,

If your Fusion videos are playing back fine on your phone, it does sounds like the possible issue is with the compatibility of your computer with these specific videos.

What media player are you using? Try using different video players (such as VLC, Windows Media Player, KMPlayer, etc.) in your computer to see if that will help.

In addition, if you will be playing back 360 files on your computer, you can use the GoPro VR Player for desktop.

Hopefully this helps!

Re: Overcapture on iPhone Exports without Sound

I have tried using Windows Movie Player, Windows Media Player, Windows Picture Viewer and Power Director 17, and none produce any sound.  My current computer isn't strong enough to play 360 files on them which is why I use the overcapture recordings on the phone and want to export those to edit on the computer.

Re: Overcapture on iPhone Exports without Sound

Hi @jedijurist

Kindly try importing the file via File Explorer or iTunes.

Also, I have made a test recording then did the Overcapture via the GoPro app (iPhone8).

Shared through YouTube then downloaded the video to a Windows10 computer.

The audio and video plays fine.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

Ej

Re: Overcapture on iPhone Exports without Sound

Yes, I've tried both Windows Explorer and iTunes, nothing works.  The only work around I've found is the upload to YouTube and download from there, but GoPro can't be serious that this is what it takes to get the overcapture video to your computer with sound.  You have a bug, please fix it.

Re: Overcapture on iPhone Exports without Sound

Thanks for the update, @jedijurist. I find it strange that the audio is only present when the Overcapture video is uploaded to YouTube, but not when played back on your computer. At some point, this means that the audio is somehow stored in the video file and something occurs either during the transfer process or could be within the media player being used that causes the audio to disappear.

We weren't able to replicate this certain issue. This can point us to possibly environmental factor causing the problem. To further isolate this, can you please try transferring your Overcapture video to a different computer?

You may also upload a sample raw / unedited OverCapture footage to your Dropbox or Google drive and provide us the shared link so we can look into the media file details here.

Looking forward to hear back from you.
