My Quik Desktop App on Win10 can't see 4K files

Hi,

As in the subject: My Quik Desktop App on Win10 can't see 4K 60fps files done on Hero7 Black. Scannink the folders picks up only the HD videos.

Why?

it is Win10 machine 6GB RAM, i7 980 four cores 2 GB Video RAM hosted on VMware workstation.

Any suggestions?

Hello @supermesa1786 . The videos shot with 4K, 60 fps use HEVC. Such files require specific computer systems in order to be viewed or played back. This article HEVC Explained, discusses the requirements, as well as the limitations on playing back media using HEVC.

Re: My Quik Desktop App on Win10 can't see 4K files

Hi @mariustanya

Thanks for your reply.

I've already knew this article.

The reason I decided to post my question is that the article doesn't address my situation. I have all hardware and software requirements met with a quite of margin, but still I can't use Quik for 4K60fps movies. Only one significant difference is that I'm using VMware; but VMware is not listed as a restriction in the article, hence my question here.

Could you please update the article to reflect whether it is possible tu use Quik on the on VMware Workstation hosted Win10? So far in the limitation section of the article there is nothing saying that, but as we see it might have an effect.

Additionally, on the article content I'd like to make one coment. Installing the codec pack for Win7 from www.windows7codecs.com makes 4K 60fps files to be played easly on Win7. Unfortunatelly not in Qiuk. :-( I'm starting to believie that the whole situation with HEVC compressed files is unnecessary artificially complicated, pushing users to use Win10 OS. :-( That is sad. It looks like the companies like yours GoPro and TechSmith blindly follow this path... I hope it wil change shortly then :-)

Re: My Quik Desktop App on Win10 can't see 4K files

I am also seeing this issue. I am using Windows 10 with an AMD Threadripper CPU. It encodes/decodes h.265 in handbrake without issue.

If the application is going to state that my computer is not HEVC compatible, it needs to be more specific on what is lacking.

As to your article, the hardware specs for PCs are very lacking:

HEVC is supported on Windows 10 computers using the Intel Kaby Lake (or equivalent) processor and newer.

This is not specific or actionable by people to know what your application is checking. Please provide more specific hardware/software dependancies that are needed/checked by your application.

Re: My Quik Desktop App on Win10 can't see 4K files

Your feedback is very much appreciated, @irousso. Just for a clarification, Quik for Deskop will still copy HEVC files to your computer, but they will not be accessible for playback in the application's Media gallery.

Re: My Quik Desktop App on Win10 can't see 4K files

so basically gopro's editing app cant handle clips from their own cameras. thats not just bad, more like retarded. its like if salomon bindnings wasnt compatible with their skiing boots. mind blown Smiley Surprised

on top of that my phone is a huawei p20 pro which apparently gopro have issues with...

so yeah i had to go elsewere for editing software, trying filmora now, which seems decent.
