Hero7 shows NO FILES TO IMPORT on Quik desktop for MAC

I just bought a hero7 and downloaded Quik for my mac, which is up to date. My camera is also up to date. My only option at the moment for importing media is via USB cable, as I don't have the adapter to move media via SD card (I have a mac which supports USB-C only).

When I connect my camera, it is showing that both of my SD cards are empty. 0% used. However on my camera, I can view the photos that are available. The forum articles I have found are either specific to windows or simply say to import using the SD card. None of these support articles and solutions have helped. I want to use the camera USB connection straight to Quik. Please help!
