HVEC File Copies but will not play on I7 10th generation, 2019 HP Specre

[ New ]

I'm running a brand new Windows 10 PC with a Core i7, 10th generation Processor. I bought this PC specifically to support the newer HEVC encoded files by the GoPro 7.

When I plug in my camera, Quick recognizes that there is media to import, I see it copy the files, and when complete it displays a warning about HEVC files, and that while they will import into Quick and show up in the Media section, they may have problems with playback.

After the files are imported, they show up but will not play at all.

Can you assist with a a soultion as it appears this computer should handle this no problem.  thanks

Hi @stephens3281

Kindly check if you have the HEVC codec installed.

You may also try using 3rd party applications when playing back HEVC files.

Also, please note that HEVC files are not yet fully compatible with Quik for desktop.

For reference, you may check HEVC Explained.

Thanks!

So, my camera will record in a format that is not compatible with QUICK?

How do I know when my camera is in that format and how do I change the format?

Why did GoPro release a camera with a format that is not supported by it's own software?

Update:

Well, I do see now that going into the mode that uses 265 does display a message that not all software supports this mode.

I changed the mode to 1440/60.  Will see how that works.

What is the recommended editing software for the HVEC265 codec?

Hi @irfrank,

You can use 3rd party video editing software such as dobe Premiere or VSDC.

I have solved the problem and i believe others might want to know the folowing.

Wen i try to open the file the Win10 default player will ask if i want to buy the HVEC codec for £0.79.

I buy the encoder but i get an error that it cannot get installed for the moment.

Quik does not see the codec installed and obviously downloads the file but does not display it.

I open microsoft Store and i see an erro that HEVC coded cannot be download and it tells me to change where new apps are saved because the coddec needs to be on the same drive as where the system is installed. After i change this to C all problem is solved and i can use the files in Quik.
