HEVC won't play in Quik desktop - how to get telemetry data

I've just purchased a new GoPro Hero 6 Black to upgrade from my Hero 4 Silver. The main reason for buying it was for the telemetry data when I go mountain biking.

However, Quik Desktop will not playback 4K60 HEVC files whatsoever on my powerful PC (i7 5820K OC, 32GB DDR4, GTX 1080 Ti). The PC is not the issue - I have read that GoPro's lack of support for anything other than Intel Kaby Lake CPUs is.

So how can I get my video into a good video editor that works properly with HEVC - like Premiere Pro CC - whilst also being able to use the telemetry data?
