Gopro studio.exe has stopped working

I've had this problem on multiple computers but most painful is on my Lenovo A730 QHD All-in-one. It's Core i7 with 8GB Ram and 2GB Nvidia GTX745 Graphics plus onboard Intel Graphics with 27" QHD Touch display. Studio used to work a long time ago, but it stopped working. First symptom was it would work till I tried to export a project, then crash and I'd lose my work, but not my converted files.Somewhere along the way it stopped even doing that, and double-clicking on Studio caused immediate "Stopped working" message. I tried all sorts of changes of compatibility modes, re-installing and uninstalling drivers for graphics, updating studio repeatedly, updated Windows from 8 to 8.1 to 10, and now even with the new studio - I can import videos but when I try to open one in the editor, it gives me the same error message. I can't get into GoPro Studio at all, just the importer. This has been going on for about 18 months or more and I just move to a different computer but it's getting to be a pain. Is there some registry hack or event manager that I can look at to figure out what's happening when the program crashes? Any advice would be thrilling. Thanks i

Re: Gopro studio.exe has stopped working

Hi @clout9, truly sorry to hear that you been having an issue with GoPro Studio and GoPro App for Desktop for quite a while now. I am glad that you posted in the Community as we would be glad to help you resolve this issue.

You have gone through some good troubleshooting steps so far but let's see if we can delete a specific file in order to reset GoPro Studio.

First, stop any GoPro application from running through your task manager. On your PC, you would need to browse to C://Users/<username>/AppData/Roaming/GoPro. The 'appsettings' file is in the GoPro folder at this location. Delete the file and re launch GoPro Studio.

Keep in mind that the AppData folder is a hidden folder by default.  You need to choose to show hidden files and folders for this to be visible.

Windows 10

From Control Panel type "folder" into the search bar and select Show hidden files and folders.  This will open the Folder Options window.

Then, click on the View tab at the top of the window.

In Advanced Settings, locate "Hidden files and folders." Select Show hidden files and folders.

Once you delete the file, launch GoPro Studio and try starting a new project and export it. Come back and let us know how it worked out for you and if you aare still having issue, we can proceed with further troubleshooting steps.

Re: Gopro studio.exe has stopped working

I am trying to make a video and I keep getting Gopro.exe has stopped working. I have gone through and done the updates as suggested in a post. I have looked for the appdata/roaming/gopro and it is not located in the c:drive/user/(account) area. I have also searched for appdata in the c:drive and have found 4 results but non of them contain a gopro file. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am using an HP with intel core i7, windows 7, and a nvidia GEFORCE GT. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have also uninstalled the program 4 times and have reloaded it.

@clout9, great job! Glad to hear everything is working for you now properly.

@Anonymous, let's see if we can delete the "appsettings" file from your computer. Usually be default, this folder is hidden and you will have to make the file available to view before deleting it. Below are instructions to locate and delete the 'appsettings' file on a Windows 7 computer.

First, you would need to browse to C://Users/<username>/AppData/Roaming/GoPro. The 'appsettings' file is in the GoPro folder at this location. To show hidden files, just click on the Organize button in any folder, and then select “Folder and Search Options” from the menu.  This will open the Folder Options window.  Then, click on the View tab at the top of the window. In Advanced Settings, locate "Hidden files and folders." Select Show hidden files and folders.

Delete the file and then try to relaunch GoPro Studio. How did this work out for you?

Re: Gopro studio.exe has stopped working

I followed the path as far as <username> after that, there is no file for AppData. I have attached a screen shot of my options. Thanks.

Re: Gopro studio.exe has stopped working

HI Lyone7400, Is it possible that when you went into AppData/Roaming your folder view setting was keeping folders "hidden" because a lot of systems are set up such that these folders are hidden by default and you have to "unhide" them. You can go to "AppData" in your windows explorer, right-click on it, and see if the "hidden" box is checked. If so, perhaps either unchecking this box or the "AppData/Users/Youraccount" folder can be right-clicked and unchecked. If you try that, you might see some files and folders which didn't appear before, and if so then you'd be able to try the solution given to me by "Bhero".

Good luck!

Re: Gopro studio.exe has stopped working

Nope, this did not work for me. I've tried this and several other solutions, nothing works, including the program. Very frustrating! I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, tried running it in compatability mode. All no joy.

Running Windows 10, i7, 8G RAM.

Please help.
