OMG, thank you! This saved my file! I only lost the last 30 mins of work instead of everything (weeks of editing). So nervous to continue to use GoPro Studio. Hate to throw shade at GoPro but get your Sh*t together please!

I had the same problem.
The solution for me was to look inside my trash bin.
The program had made a copy of the file and threw that in the bin. I took this out of the bin and made a copy to my external harddrive.
When I opened the file from my harddrive eveything was back again :)
I really hope this helps for some people, I have been working on this video for over 50 freaking hours!
I have a 2010 macbook with the latest software of apple and gopro.
@GoPro: Even the program is free (and I like how easy it is to work with), The ammounts of crashes is ridiculous. Please fix this.
Ps: People turn the auto save off, This does seem to help.

I have a question, if you know it's a problem why in the hell is the program available for use? Tonight I canceled my karma order, and ordered a mavic, I am selling my gopros and I will never buy another product form your company again, if you don't stand behind everything you produce, I don't trust anything your produce. I am officially done with Gopro! Thank you for screwing me over,(yes you've screwed all of us over) you will never recieve another penny from me again.

Here is my problem. I purchased my Go Pro this year. Also, recently got a new, more powerful computer. Way above system requirements. Used hours of working on a project. Suddenly, Go Pro studio app started crashing. When trying to open my project, first it is loading FOREVER and program is not responding. Then, I get a message that file is corrupted and go pro studio is unable to play it. I do have both the original file and autosave file. Tried opening the original version, same issue occurs. I would like to emphasize how extremely ridiculous this is. I see posts from two years ago regarding the same issue, and the problem hasn't been fixed. I tried reinstalling the app, tried saving my project on external storage and opening it from there. Nothing works. At this point I feel like I have tried everything. Hours of careful trimming and editing went down the drain. I would like a solution to this problem, please. Basically, at this point I feel like I want to sell my Go Pro since it is, quite honestly, USELESS.

There is no single recipe for fixing GoPro studio project file, but I would like to share my latest experience with corrupted file. It might help to someone.
My situation: I was creating project, having successful import and convert a lot of files and did quite a lot of editing on story board. All was working fine, then one day I opened the project and story board was empty!
I was desperate, so I checked the project file in text editor. Format of gopro studio project file is in json format and is simple for analysis, so I quickly found out that story board section was not empty (sections TracksAudible, TracksVisual). Everything was still there, just not showing in the studio. I knew there is hope to solve it so was checking forums on this kind of problems and came to this post. In one of the replies it was mentioned that having original import files in the list is consuming memory, so I opened project file in text editor, manually removed all entries from section ImportBin, stored it and re-open corrected project. It worked; story board with all items was there.
Maybe same solution could be achieved through GUI by clearing import files – I have not tried.
GoPro studio is editor with exactly what I need for editing GoPro videos. It is such a shame that is of bad quality. Now when stopped being supported there is even no hope it will get any better, but I have tried free alternatives, and was not happy with them, so I think I will keep using it though. It seems there are others like me, so if you are still using GoPro Studio do:
- disable auto save
- backup of project file
- use tricks as this one when needed
