GoPro Quik HEVC Editing NIGHTMARE

[ New ]

GoPro needs to imliment HARDWARE ACCELERATION for editing 4k HEVC photage.

Computer specs:

-i5 6600k at 4.5 Ghz

-1080ti

-32GB ram

- Samsung 970 Evo Nvme

These are by all means decent computer specs. but I cannot edit photage from my gopro hero 7 Black at all. What's the point of capturing these photage if you can't edit them????

Playback is fine with hardware acceleration with windows 10's built in movie player.

Clearly what's lacking is that GoPro needs to impliment HARDWARE ACCELERATION from GPU.

Will NOT recommend GoPro products until GoPro addresses the issues of EDITING PHOTAGE.

Re: GoPro Quik HEVC Editing NIGHTMARE

Hi @hardypike03134

Windows

HEVC is supported on Windows 10 computers using the Intel Kaby Lake (or equivalent) processor and newer.

Playing Media on Unsupported Operating Systems
If your computer isn’t running Windows 10 / macOS High Sierra or newer, you will not be able to play HEVC files. Quik for desktop will still copy HEVC files to your computer, but they won’t appear in the Quik for desktop Media gallery. Also, third-party apps won’t be able to play HEVC files.

Playing Media on Supported Operating Systems, but Older Computers
While Windows 10 / macOS High Sierra supports HEVC, your computer must use a newer processor to play those files smoothly. Quik for desktop will still copy HEVC files to your computer, but those files may struggle to play back. In general, computers manufactured before 2016 may not handle HEVC files well. See the partial list of supported computers/processors above.

For other editing options on your home computer, we have had several customers give good reviews of Pinnacle Studio HD, Davinci Resolve,  Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premier Elements, and Apple's iMovie and Final Cut X.
For more advance video editing applications, please refer to DaVinci Resolve (Free Version) or Adobe Premiere Pro CC (Paid).

Thanks!

Ej
